pop3 email client. i posted this recently in a thread in general discussion and someone else said they were working on one too. i think he said it did all the functionality he wanted it to, but needed to spend time on skinning.

mine initially will just be to read, wont try to display HTML or the email in any fancy way. later i hope to add the ability to send mail. ive got maybe 80% of the functionality in place, and probably have 50% of the skinning code in place. it's just hard to find time...and i'll be away the next two weeks.

i need to add more code to set up accounts from the config app, write to the config.xml, etc, etc. right now ive got my two gmail accounts hard-coded, and i use it just fine to check them.

I use a basic page (local web, not plugin) I designed just to show me from, date, and subject, so I know if it's even worth opening email or not. I think it would be a great idea just to have a an email browser app. It's like looking at the caller id, but not checking voice mail. It's also pretty free of technical hurdles.

Sub needs to fix a problem in the "ShowMessage" routine and then the existing CallerID would probably work.

I did not realize that code monkey left. Did sub ever finish the method? Once he does I will play with the plugin.

No, and sorry no plans to at this point. It wasnt the right way to do it. I'll come up with something better in a later release.

Not a problem. When you get to it I will try to complete where code monkey left off.

I'm also working on a pop3-client (sorry, povarotti).
It'll be able to
- read multiple pop3-accounts
- parse mulitpart-MIME-messages
- decode "quoted-printable"
- it currently only shows plain-text

I only have to fix some complex MIME-parsing-situations and improve the skinng.
Any Alpha-test-volunteers?

jorm if you are going to pick up the caller id plugin, would you care to extend it? i have an idea, to include a answer machine into gbpvr, so when a call comes up, you have a few options "ok","answer machine", "block" (which will always hangup this number if it calls, helpful to get rid of annoying people). also then the plugin will also extend the IMenuTask and hopefully IInfoPanel to display "5 new messages" etc. this eventually could merge with a email plugin sharing the contacts database, and eventually (well hopefully) also work with a video/voice over ip plugin.

i know it sounds like a lot of work, but come on that would be cool, just have to search for afew free programs to get it to work (answer machine etc).

Lots of interesting stuff going on here.
  • I'm working on the new release of UK Cinema Listings over Christmas. Taking a new approach this time, doing lots of testing pre-release.
  • Also working on extending File Explorer plugin, adding support for external MP3 player managment, eg copying/deleting files etc. Early days tho.
