Kodi - Instant recording not working as it should, kodi showing wrong notifications.

Hi there,

I've posted this over at the kodi forums as well.

message appears saying "recording sheduled" When watching a channel and pushing the record button in kodi... Pushing the record button again relays a message saying "recording started"

in order to stop the recording, i have to push the record button a further two times.

This however is not always the case... Sometimes if i click the record button kodi will start recording straight away returning the message "recording started" after just one click, which is how it should work.

using 3.6.6 NPVR and latest openelec nightlies for RPi2

I've been using Tvheadend as a backend in kodi since day one and have only just moved over to NPVR, so i'm really unsure if the NPVR plugin has always acted this way.
however instant recording works as it should when using the TVheadend addon so it appears to be related to the NPVR addon

Wondering if there has been a change in kodi api... If the addon needs updating or perhaps NPVR itself needs updating to handle these requests differently.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

I just checked it, and saw pretty much the same thing. The recording does start in NextPVR as soon as you hit the record button though, and I checked the addon is returning a success status to let kodi know it successfully started the recording, but Kodi isn't updating the UI to tell you it's recording. ie, looks like some bug in the UI of the current build of kodi.

I've done a little testing and I'm convinced is npvr itself.

I've reverted back to openelec 6.0.3 (current stable) - kodi v15 which is using npvr addon version 1.10.8
I've then updated to a nightly build of openelec v7 - kodi v16 which is using npvr addon version 1.12.3
I've then updated to most recently nightly of openelec v8 -kodi v17 which is using npvr version 2.1.0

All different versions of kodi, all different versions of the addon.
The only thing that was the same version on all tests was the npvr back end version 3.6.6

Tested all openelec installs using tvheadend as a backend and all recording notifications displayed fine every time.
So it can't be kodi, if it's working with tvheadend.

The only thing I cannot do is try an early version of npvr... Because I cannot obtain any earlier releases.

Yes I do.

It's appears to me that is got something to do with the communication... I've reverted back to tvheadend for now to keep the wife happy.

With tvheadend, if you press record it says "recording scheduled" then changes to "recording started" nearly instantly.

Npvr does not change to "started" unless the signal is sent twice. Maybe it's responding too quick??
I've also tried media portal backened and it acts the same as npvr

So it's looking like tvheadend is doing something different. To enforce the correct response.

I've found the cause of this. It related to a timing issue with the way Kodi was reloading the recording list.

I could have fixed it in either the Kodi or NextPVR side. It's always easier for me to make changes in the NextPVR side though, so I've made the change for the next release.
