Hello,

I would like to try NextPVR but am having some problems getting it set up. Up to now I have been using WinTV8 to do my capturing. I am using a Hauppauge Colossus card, connected to my STB by component cable. NextPVR recognizes the card, I go to "devices" but can not find a way to scan in my channels. The "scan" button is not there. According to the wiki, there should be a scan button present. Is there a way to get my channels scanned so that I can use NextPVR or let me know what else I should be doing?

Thanks,
Mark

You don't scan on a Colossus or HDPVR. You either manually add channels or create them from the guide data. Best bet is to create a Schedules Direct trial account (when it comes back up) and import the channel list from your cableco.

The Colossus isn't a tuner, so the concept of scanning doesn't really make sense. With a Colossus you're connected to a set top box (probably via HDMI or Component), so you have to tell NextPVR what channels are available via your set top box. There is no way NextPVR could know otherwise.

Most people do this by hitting the 'Import' button and enter their Schedules Direct account details then select which lineup they want to import, or point it at an XMLTV file with their list of channels. Alternatively you can use the 'Add' button to manually add them.

EDIT: what he said...

Hello again and thanks for replying. As I said in my OP, I am using WinTV8 currently and was able to have that scan in all of the channels my STB provides to my Colossus card. That aside, I tried entering one channel that I know but could not figure out how to get live TV to work. Any help there?

Thanks!

Can you give us a quick summary description of the process that you used to "scan in all the channels" using WinTV8. We can then describe the equivalent process in NextPVR. Thanks.

I don't remember any scanning option in there with the Colossus. In WinTV if you choose the STB option in their new device wizard, it allows you to either manually enter channels (same as NextPVR's "Add" button), or enter your zip code and select a provider (effectively the same as NextPVR's "Import" button).

After adding a channel, you should be about to hit Live TV in the main menu. If that didn't working, what happened? You'll also need to zip and attach your logs showing this attempt.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. But here is a video showing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRj9r04TAcc

If you have time and can respond, it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

The video shows a digital scan but that doesn't apply to the Colossus. Sub and my posts 2 & 3 apply.

Yep, what he said - that is a 950Q digital tuner. You'd do the same type of scan with that in NextPVR.

With devices connected to a set top box, whether analog/HDPVR/Colossus, you have to tell NextPVR (and WinTV) what channels are available via the set top box, because there is no way to scan this information.
