I have a Hauppauge 250 (without FM) connected to Cable TV (Cablevision, central NJ). It only finds about half of my channels, and it seems like each time I scan them there are slight variations in the ones it finds. Well, let me clarify... it does actually find the channels, and allows me to add them, but all I have on those channels is dark grey static. Any ideas on what the cause might be? I'm using Zap for the EPG. The EPG info seems to be complete, I see the listings for all the channels I should have, but about half of the channels only display static.

You Cable TV broadcaster may be transmitting on non standard channel frequencies. If this is the case, and WinTV is able to locate all your channels, then you could look at the FreqCopy utility which can adjust some Microsoft registry settings to match the broadcaster frequencies found by WinTV much more thorough frequency scan.

Downloading it now, and will give it a try... I'll post an update after I've worked with it for a little while.

Thanks for that tip.

Okay, I set wintv2000 to be in channel mode because, from what I understand in reading the freqcopy info, it needs the actual channel and not the assumed "preset". I had wintv2000 rescan "all the channels", not "channels by country". It scanned all the channels, and displayed them in MHz while it was scanning, but as soon as it had finished, it changed them automatically to the familiar station numbers (i.e. 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc...)

Is this correct?

I then ran freqcopy but it didn't seem to make a difference. Half my channels were still static...

I think what freqcopy is saying to do is manually enter the channels by MHz, but when that info is saved won't it just be saved as the local familiar number? In any case, I'm unable to find a mhz frequency chart for my cable company. I've been searching since my last post. Would you know of a resource where this can be located?

I dont know. I'm not actually that familiar with freqcopy, since I've not had to run it myself. I do know that a lot european users have had to do this to solve similar problems with non-standard frequencies.

Someone more familiar with how to tweak these setting will hopefully pipe up with an answer.

FreqCopy copies the frequencies found by WinTV to the Microsoft frequency override tables described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul...rrides.asp

Okay, definitely a strange problem going on here... The page you gave mein your last post has the frequencies I needed, and I've entered the 1st 20 manually, then closed wintv2000, then used freqcopy to edits the registry settings. I then go into gbpvr, and all my channels, from 1 -20 are accessible, but channel 2 shows static.

I then closed gbpvr, and ran freqcopy again, essentially just copying the registry settings again. I then open gbpvr, and channel 2 still only shows static, but now 8, 9, 10, and 11 also show static. ???

It seems that every time I restart gbpvr, different channels show static, and channel 2 so far has not displayed anything at all...

[edit: and another strange thing... channel 17, on first starting gbpvr, shows static. If I change channels down to around 10, using the arrow keys, and then quickly arrow-key all the way up to 17, it shows channel 17, no more static...]

I ran freqcopy again, but this time changed the "connection type" from cable to antenna. gbpvr now shows all my channels, except for channel 2 still... I'm going to add all the channels up to 40 and see if everything but channel 2 shows up.

I've added channels 1 - 100 now. Out of all of those, only channel 2, 37, and 48 do not display. (They only display static). However, if I go all the way up to channel 100, the channels that should be displaying at 2, 37, and 48 are there, but they are listed without a channel number, and they show "Channel Name" in the title field at the bottom of the window.

So... the missing channels are actually there, just unnamed and in the wrong location in the list. Is there a way, in gbpvr, to completely reset the channel list, and allow it to pick up the channels from what I did with freqcopy in order to fix the naming/order issue?

You can manually edit the channel number in the capture source screen.

You can also change the channel ordering on the 'channels' tab of the config app.

If you want to start again from scratch you can remove and recreate the capture sources.

For the life of me I could not figure out how to reorder the channel listings in the channels tab. It doesnt seem to let me click and drag a channel. I simply deleted the capture source and rebuilt it. All seems to be working properly now. Thanks for your guidance.
