I have used NPVR for a year with my Silicon Dust HD Home Run Connect, without any problem. I've been able to record anything and everything I've thrown at it.

After a recent update to NPVR a few weeks ago, some of my programs record the whole time, but the file size is useless (see attached jpg for file size comparison). It records three times a day, and it's never consistent which shows it records correctly. There is no weakness in the signal, which shows 90-100% throughout the recording time.

Now running 3.83 (160929).

I've attached the logs for those who understand them :)

Thank you so much for your assistance!

I'd first check what the main application is set to in the HDHR Settings utility. Try setting it to mediaportal instead of NextPVR, since this settings causes problems for some users when there is overlapping recording.

If that does help, you're probably going to need to look in the HDHR Config utility while one of these problem recordings is in progress, to check what it says about the signal level, and the data rate being sent,

Thank you for the mediaportal suggestion. I've changed it from NPVR to mediaportal, and I'll check again tomorrow.

None of the recordings overlap, but the first two are back-to-back. I have watched the signal level through the recordings and it's always at 90-100% signal strength.

Thank you again.

This is generally treated as an overlap due to paddinge etc.

Looking at the this signal info can tell you useful stuff during a failure - you might find the tuner on the wrong frequency, not locked, or zero data rate or other.

I am not recording right now but I'm watching the HDHR Config GUI data for the station. The Signal Quality % is good, but I notice that the Network Rate does fluctuate between 1.5 Mbps to 15 Mbps with an average around 6 Mbps. It never hangs down at 1.5 Mbps for more than a second, then jumps back up to 5-6 Mbps.

The recording never stops completely during the time period. It just writes a few Kbs of data every few seconds instead of a few Mbs every few seconds during the hour recording.

I'll redo sig quality and network rate again during the recording tomorrow.

Your choice of using atsc guide data might be causing a problem especially if recordings change.

That is a very large range for OTA. Do you see that on all of your stations or just that one. I have a CONNECT and I do not have that kind of fluctuation. Was HDHomRun Config being run over Ethernet or WiFi connection?

The connection is on a 100 Mbs LAN. It's a 4.2 digital channel. The 4.1 is solid, but for some reason the 4.2 fluctuates quite a bit. Even with the fluctuations, it records pretty well.

Changing to mediaport seems to have worked so far. It recorded two shows back-to-back with no problem!

Thanks again!
