Got me a new Sony tv with Android built in.
loaded kodi added xnewa Wow works great
Read a few reviews that said the Android built-in didn't play all content well I haven't found anything yet that npvr records that it won't play.
Even handles the pvr addon well

Best tv I have owned by a mile

oh, that's what I would've really wanted, but the Sony android TV's are the more expensive ones... the cheaper sony smart tv's use their other (older?) smart tv platform. even hunting the open-box deals, I couldn't find a sony android I could afford. Just last night I traded up to a LG 50" 4k UHD/HDR TV with webOS 3.0 for $320 (clearance and open-box of course). Seems to be a fantastic TV, much nicer than the Samsung 48" J5200 I returned.

I know the android hardware in the Sony isn't the same as what's in my Nexus Player, BUT I have found Kodi 17 to be unusable on my Nexus Player (issues with MPEG decoding and de-interlacing). I've gone back to 16.1 and turned off auto-updates. Assuming you're not already running Kodi 17, I suggest you join the kodi beta program (https://play.google.com/apps/testing/org.xbmc.kodi) so you can try the Kodi 17 RC3 and see if all is well... if not you can just leave the beta program, then uninstall 17 and re-install it to get 16.1 back. That way you wont have to mess with side-loading 16.1 later when the play store has only 17.

Hi, I'm looking at finally getting a Sony TV with Android [X90F/X900F/X900F series, to replace my aging and dying Panasonic Viera 32"].
Is there an easier way to set it up as client than loading KODI and then XNEWA (I have done this on my RPi2 so I know how but all the same...)
Does the Android App simply load onto the TV?

Well I bought the TV above; any hints on adding it as a client directly (if possible)?

The android client doesn't work that we'll can't fast forward interface more for touch screen
After you posted above I had another play
Best I could get going is load Kodi
Load xnewa
Add xnewa as a favourite
Download,/enable party mode(under services in Kodi repo)
(select xnewa to load on startup)
Boom job done

Personally I still use the rpi3 it's just a bit smoother few more buttons on remote to control things ,but my tv is 2 years old now so your may be better

Cheers Stu; was hoping to declutter by removing the PCH (or RPi2) and use built in Android capability as a client. Oh well ...

The Android client should work for this task, but I haven't personally tried it with a Sony Android TV. It's a fairly basic client, but works. I've got plans for improvements, but these will need to wait until other stuff is off my plate.

Cool; I might try it if I can work out how to add this as an app to Sony TV.

Will do when working; got Kodi loaded OK, rediscovered how to add XNEWA but getting NPVR cannot access local host 127.0.0.1. Will seek support in the correct forum. Yes I disabled my firewall. Will also need to work out how to adb ? into the TV Android system to change autostsrt. I already enabled developer access by pressing the lowest button in About 4 times. There’s a New Android OS out for it shortly too Sony Bravia KD-49X9000F (90F/900F).
