Possible to add option to stop and start new stream on channel change for PVR addon?

This is an Android problem.

I'm using Shield TV. It is reported by many in the Kodi forum that Android has a problem with continuing hardware decoding when changing channels. So video begings to stutter after channel change.

It is possible to add an option to the add9n configuration to stop and restart the stream on channel change?

That file handling issue would be a Kodi change not in the PVR addon. The client interacts with the backend.

Does the client tell the backend to stop the current stream before starting a new one?

The client is stateless but the server tracks client requests and is able to detect when stops are required. That would not help the Kodi problem you describe.

May be I didn't describe the problem right. If I manually stop and restart the stream on Kodi (Android), then hardware decoding works perfect. If I change the channel only, then hardware decoding breaks.

I was wondering if it is possible to add an option in the PVR client to stop the stream on channel change.

I'm not asking who is responsible for the problem but only whether this solution is possible.

To be honest, it's not easy for us to make any changes to the PVR clients - it's always a slow and involved proccess, and can take weeks for the updates to flow through to builds on all the platforms. It's also only possibly for us to do it on the current development branch (probably Kodi v18 these days). You'd probably better off asking whoever maintains Kodi Android builds about the issue, rather than asking for a hack to put in the NextPVR PVR addon in hopes of it working around the issue.

If you manually stop and start that solves the client side problem because the Kodi stream switch doesn't occur which has nothing to do with how pvr.nextpvr talks to the backend. The layer that needs changing is outside the addon and other addons are impacted too. There is a test build here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=308496 which might help.

Yes, I wouldn't like to even ask for a hack but nobody cares about Kodi issues on Android.
