DVTune Software Question

Hi all,

Below is my current configuration:

Windows 10
Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR
Direct TV Receiver - H25-100

I am currently not using an IR blaster to change channels on my DirectTV receiver.

I found that the IR blaster was not consistent.

So I now use (with the help of this forum) the network to change channels on the receiver (via http) using "dtvtune" software

This works PERFECT

The only thing is, DirecTV is becoming kind of expensive, so I have been tossing the idea around of switching to comcast

Does anyone know if the comcast receiver will also allow be able to receive commands via http ? Or is that only good for the DirecTV receivers?

Comcast/Xfinity has a number of different receivers. I've used a few with the Hauppauge cards and their IR control with great success. I'm pretty sure their X1 boxes have some IP control, but it is a closed system, you'd have to hack it (if it can be hacked, I think it communicates to comcast servers for control) to figure out how to control it. Comcast however does have cablecards that work very good with SiliconDust HDHomeRun devices. Be aware, you cannot record copy protected channels, you'll need the a comcast box for that.

We use Comcast here with NO cable box from them at all (the box shows up on your bill as a monthly $10 "HD Technology Fee" if you have one). :mad: The NextPVR server sits in a corner of the living room, connected to Comcast via a SiliconDust HD HomeRun Prime (3-tuners in one box, networked tuner) with a Comcast Cable Card. An HDMI cable feeds NextPVR output to the TV. All control is done via an MCE IR receiver and a low-end Harmony remote (NextPVR works great with an MCE remote, but the Harmony also lets us also control the TV and sound bar as well, all from one remote). Oh yeah, you can't watch or record premium channels through NextPVR without their box. Those channels are copy protected, as mentioned above. But they now offer those channels via a browser, if you're a subscriber to those (HBO, Showtime, etc.). We also keep a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard in the living room for firing up the browser for Netflix and Amazon Prime shows.
