I have posted my logs here for NextPVR and Kodi. I replicated the issue where Kodi freezes completely when I pause for a while, and then try to watch the show to catch up. From the investigation that I have gathered, the NextPVR recording service freezes up and Kodi just freezes all together because of the NextPVR plugin. Rebooting the NextPVR recording service seems to fix this issue temporarily, but then it leaves those timeshifted remnants in the buffer folder for NextPVR. I have to manually delete them or they will stay there forever.

I am using an HDHomerun Prime and am connected through LAN over a gigabit cable to a gigabit switch. TV works fine when played directly through NextPVR and I've never really had any issues timeshifting there. It only seems to be an issue when going through Kodi.

NextPVR version 3.7.7
Kodi version 17.1
NextPVR Kodi Plugin version 2.4.11

Since you are using an old version 3.7.7 NextPVR you should upgrade and post the logs again with the new version if the problem persists.

Thank you. I had no idea that I was behind. I am now updated to 3.9.2 and have duplicated the problem twice. Both recent log files are attached this time. The crash happened around 1:19pm local computer time.

Interesting log message when you are using Kodi timeshift mode

2017-05-26 13:19:43.967 [DEBUG][16] arg! our live buffer doesn't go back this far....

That is something for sub to look at.

Interesting, indeed!! I wonder if this is coming from Kodi or from the NextPVR plugin inside Kodi. Should I also post this on the Kodi forum to see, or should I wait until SUB lets me know if this is a NextPVR plugin issue?

Approximately how long did you pause for?

It doesn't always seem to matter when I have this issue. I can replicate it every time by pausing for like 20 minutes and then playing. When I go timeshifting around, like fast forward and rewind and pause then it can freeze everytime. It did it to my wife a few days ago about 30 seconds after she launched Kodi, before she even had a chance to pause or anything. That may have been a different thing, but it seems coincidental. I have noticed that when I pause for longer than the buffer time, then it doesn't play the show. Is there a way to tell the Kodi to just start playing when it runs out of pause buffer?

The default live tv buffer size is around 20 minutes, so it wouldn't surprise me if you got something like this after that period of time.

I have had a few tries at reproducing it with pauses of a few minutes, but it didn't happen. I didn't try pausing for 20+ minutes.

Unfortunately no - I have very little control over how Kodi behaves. It may improve when I add support for the new timeshift API in Kodi 18. I wont know how that behaves until closer to then though.

Thank you for the extra info. I'll be excited to see how it works in Kodi 18. What exactly are the options on the NextPVR side? Can we set the plugin to jump the TV stream forward when we unpause it if it were pause more than 20 minutes? Is there a way to increase that 20min buffer?

That's how it behaves in NextPVR itself. I've got no control over this in the Kodi.

Yes. You can set the following in the registry, and restart. The default if the setting doesn't exist is 1200 seconds (20 minutes) (4B0 in hex)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\NPVR\SlipSeconds=1200 (DWORD)
