So, as you can see by my title, I currently have 2 boxes in my possession. For now, only the Happauge is running on my Windows 10 machine with NPVR. It is actually running great. Never a glitch. But, being the geek I am, I had to look into this HDHomerun Prime. I did all my homework. I got my access cable card from my cable company. Verified that channels will not be blocked (Copy protected) and gathered all the right equipment to make this happen

So, now, it is up and running. But it isnt running in NPVR. The only reason I got the HDHomerun Prime was to stream live TV. But, now I see what this device can do

Does anyone out there think I am better off running the HDHomerun Prime box on NPVR instead of using the Happauge? Will there be better outcomes?

Just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are

What is going wrong when you try to use its in NextPVR? There is lots of users using HDHomeRun devices in NextPVR, so you shouldn't have any serious issues.

Or if you just mean you haven't set it up yet, and were more interested in an opinion of what would be best - I'd use the HDHomeRun Prime, since it'll give you 3 tuners, and quicker channel changes etc (and no need to deal with IR Blasters etc). You can always use the HDPVR for copy-protected channels, and HDHR Prime for all the copy-freely channels.

This EXACTLY....I havent tried it yet....

Being the Prime has 3 tuners, will NPVR be able to record 3 shows at once ?

Ok. I hooked up the HDHomerun.

All is going as planned and everything looks great

I figured I would give it a go and record 3 things at once, and, while I thought it was working, i was wrong

What is happening is there are 3 folders created of the 3 shows i chose to record, but only 2 have content.

The 3rd program I choose to record only creates a folder and puts nothing in it

is there a max to how many tuners NPVR can record at once ? If not is there a setting I am missing?

it isnt really giving me any errors, just not doing all 3 shows

There is no maximum to the quantity of shows that NextPVR will simultaneously record and there is no setting that affects the quantity of recordings. NextPVR will use one tuner per digital frequency and is able to simultaneously record all of the channels on a single frequency using a single tuner (though that may not be relevant in your setup if, for example, you have one channel per frequency).

Graham's comment is accurate for ATSC (over the air) or Clear QAM channels, but not for CableCard channels. With the CableCard, the Prime is only allowed to send 1 channel stream per tuner to NextPVR. NextPVR can save the received stream to multiple recording files (when you have overlapping pre- and post-padding).

Are you sure that 3rd channel is copy-freely? If so perhaps one of your cablecard devices isn't authorized.

Martin,

Thanks Martin

I did verify that all 3 programs I tried to record last night (on numerous occasions) were all copy free and I am able to view them without issue

I am unsure what happened last night, but, I just tried it again now and all 3 random programs I tried to record are recording. All 3 folders have content . So it appears to be working fine now

As an example, when I tried to record the 3 programs at the same time last night and the 1 failed, when I went to my NPVR recording library to delete the show that was not there, the title was there but reported a recording failed with the error "ERROR: Resource locked by 192.168.1.4 (That happens to be the IP address of my NPVR Windows 10 PC)

Not sure what that meant, but, things seem to be ok today. I hope it stays that way Smile

The resource locked error (with the same IP address) would indicate that some other program was using that tuner at the time (or at least had it locked). I would have guessed Windows Media Center doing a channel scan or something similar, but since you're running Windows 10, I guess not that. Had you used the SiliconDust software (either the DVR or the HDHR View)?

At the time, I was using a bunch of software trying to see what worked best (including WMC which I was able to install (not really a big issue) but it never found the tuner), but, other than that, I had plex going, I had 2 3rd party apps running (possibly) and a handful of other utilities.....maybe something had a gold of it and wasnt letting go...

I suppose a reboot of my PC would have helped matters? Smile
