hdhomerun vs cpu load

Hi there,

I'm currently looking to build a whole house DVR using a mini pc running NextPVR and hdhomerun as a tuner. I order to minimise costs by cutting the PC performance, can someone tell me which device is technically recording the stream between the hdhomerun and the running PC? (i.e. which one is working hard on cpu usage).

Honestly, recording isn't that hard on the PC. There isn't a lot of computation that goes on. NextPVR is receiving the stream over the network and writing it to disk.

I am running a whole house DVR with two hdhomerun tuners (prime+connect). I am using a low-end, low-power AMD quad core Athlon cpu (2.1 Ghz) in my server. Typical cpu is a few percent except when I am running comskip on multiple streams simultaneously, where the load can go up to ~30%.
