Just wondering what time I should expect for tuning channels. Running NPVR on a Win 10 PC with DVB-S tuner card, it takes about 7-8 seconds to tune to the first channel selected from the TV Guide, is that good, bad, typical ?

With my DVB-S tuner I'm typically seeing video in about 4 seconds on starting live tv, and changing channels in about 1-1.5 seconds.

There is a few factors that can cause delays, like how quickly your particular device locks the channels and starts delivering data, and whether there is any extra delays constructing the playback graph (some machine have piles of directshow filters on the machine, and slow to find decoders etc).

I assume you're talking about viewing in NextPVR itself, not other client apps? If other apps, then they have their own extra delays.

Yes, am talking about NextPVR itself. Mostly it gets used as a source / backend / whatever for Emby, which takes the same amount of time, so am assuming if NPVR could be quicker Emby would speed up by the same amount. Switching between channels seems about as quick for me as for you in NPVR btw, its just that initial start that's a bit slow. Is it worth bothering about you reckon ?

Emby will always be slower and harder on your server then NextPVR directly because of the transcoding.

I'm happy to take a look at your logs, to see if I can see any obvious slow downs, like loading the decoders for the playback - though trimming a few seconds off there wont really make any difference if you're viewing in another app. Decoders etc are only used when playing directly in NextPVR.

Don't know if these'll show anything, if I've done it properly, but nothing ventured etc...(not all logs in logs folder included, just all the ones with todays date)

Martin

I guess so, though Emby does seem to Direct Play quite a bit of TV for me now.

There is no big obvious delays in there. Your device is taking about 2 seconds longer to start, and your playback graph is taking about a second longer. How long the device is taking will just come down to the device and it's drivers. The playback graph might be able to trim off that second by uninstalling software you don't need (or getting a faster drive or similar etc).

Thanks for the info (and the time). Probably won't be able to do that much. Will see if I can chuck anything out, and have a look through the start up processes as well, but NPVR and Windows are on an SSD, so not a lot might happen...
