How do I get TV channels in the order I want?

Hi,

I'm new to NextPVR and have managed to get it working with Kodi. But I can't get the TV channels to appear in the order I want them.

I have got groups working okay but not the order within those groups.

In Settings/Channels/Channel Details there is the actual channel number NextPVR has found and I thought I could give the channel another number in the next field to determine the order that the channels would appear. I have done this but it does not seem to work.

The channels in Kodi appear to be ordered according to their main channel number. I can order them by Name but that is not what I want either.

The only solution I can see is to put a number in front of the channel name but I would prefer not to do this.

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

For Freeview ... NextPVR uses the channel numbers from the broadcast stream ... 1 for BBC1, 2 for BBC2, etc ... In NextPVR you can change the channel number to any number that you want.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually using a satellite card and accessing free to air channels. I didn't try to change the channel numbers that NextPVR found but the details page shows two channel numbers. The one that NextPVR found when scanning the satellite and another one that I can enter. I thought that the Kodi NextPVR plugin would use this to order the channels?

I can't actually work out how NextPVR gets/assigns channel numbers. I thought they were fixed by the satellite provider (Astra) but when I tried other TV programs e.g. MediaPortal I got totally different channel numbers. So, I am somewhat confused.

Sorry, NextPVR only sorts by channel number at this stage. It doesn't have another independent channel order.

In the channel details screen I see a heading of General under which there is a channel number, another number and the channel heading. I thought from the documentation that the second number was used to order the channels. If that is not the case what is that number for or is it just not used at the moment?

In the countries that use ATSC, you can have a channel numbers like 3.1, 3.2 etc. Kind of like subchannels. ie CBS might have 2.1 and 2.2 and 2.3, and NBC might have 4.1 and 4.2. This is called the major.minor number. In Europe you only have channels like 3 etc, which is the equivalent of 3.0, but NextPVR just hides the .0.

I've recently upgraded from NPVR 3.8.3 to 4.2.4 and i've lost the ability to order my channel groups by drag/dropping them in the desired order. They appear to revert to the Channel number order in the channel list.
The channel numbers bear no relation to the LCN, maybe they are in the order they are detected during the channel scan. The HDHomerun appears to pick up the Australian DVB-T LCN's but NPVR does not.
I'm going to try to manually change the channel numbers to se if that allows me to set the channel order that I want. I note that V4.2.4 now has an extra Channel number in the channel details that is not mentioned in the NPVR Wiki. I gather this is for sub-channel numbering.

Basically the way I understand it LCN's are for the initial scan and should work for the All Channels group only Other groups are sorted based on how you add them.
