Hi,

I couldn't find an answer using search.

I'm running Windows 10 and latest NPVR 4.2.2. NPVR by the way, works really well - massive kudos to the developer(s)!!

The only (small) issue I have is if I leave my laptop lid down after hibernation, and if I have a recording scheduled, the recording does not start until I open the lid.

It appears that the computer wakes up from hibernate but until I open the lid, the recording will not start. I try to remember not to close the lid and everything is ok, but occasionally I do close the laptop lid (force of habit Smile)

I have set the power options on my laptop to do nothing when the lid is closed - I have it set to hibernate when I press the power button.

As I said, if the lid is left up, there are no issues at all.

Does anyone know of a solution or is it maybe a BIOS issue???? (apart from keeping the lid up :p)

TIA
Graham

NextPVR sends messages to Windows that tell Windows to wake from sleep a minute or two before each scheduled recording. I suspect that NextPVR cannot tell Windows to wake from hibernate.

What happens if you change your Windows settings so that the computer sleeps and does not hibernate?

Thanks for the reply Graham.

The computer does respond to the request to wake from hibernate. It's just that recording only starts if the lid on the laptop is raised - if the lid is shut, the recording does not start. If I don't close the lid, recording from hibernate works every time. I'm thinking it is more of a Windows BIOS issue - but thought somebody had seen it before and knew of a solution.

As we speak, I'm downloading updates from HP Support - and one of them is for a BIOS update (don't know the specifics), but I'll have a go again when the update is complete.

Yeah, it'll be something like that. Possibly a power management settings in Windows. There wont be a NextPVR setting that'll make a difference to this.

This kind of seems unlikely, but if you want to do schedule a test recording, and post the logs, along with info about when it should have started, and when the lid was opened etc, I can see what the logs say.

I'll try scheduling a recording with the lid closed and if anything is in the log, I'll post it. TIA

You're correct - Windows does not wake up from hibernate if the laptop lid is closed. As soon as the lid is opened - windows wakes up and the recording starts.

I'll just have to get into the the habit of leaving the lid open. I did update BIOS to the latest and it made no difference.

Thinking about it - it does make some sense that the laptop will not wake if the lid is closed - without the lid being open, you can't really do anything with the laptop.

Windows lets you edit the power management options to have some control over what happens when the lid is opened/closed etc. You might be able to get exact behaviour you're looking for by tweaking those settings.

I've found (and changed) settings related to closing the lid (i.e. i've set it to do nothing), but not really found anything that will force the laptop to wake whilst the lid is closed - it seems that laptops have been designed this way.

Yeah, you're probably right - laptop are really designed around saving power with the lid closed.

Try sleep rather than hibernate?
