OK, I know your gonna want logs. But without logs can someone point me in some direction as to why it is a hit or miss as to why I cannot rewind live video?
NextPVR and Is the latest ver and I am running Kodi 17.6.
Thank you very much.

There was no official support for rewinding live tv in Kodi 17. There is support for it in Kodi 18.

I'm confused, I have tested pausing, rewinding and fast-forwarding live tv on 17.6 (only if I've paused and only on the tv channel i'm currently watching).

I am unable to do this with any kind of stability on the 18 Nightlies, it often hangs my Kodi Client. Keen to help improve this anyway I can, but what should I be able to do with a Windows 10 x64 Kodi 18 front-end and NextPVR Backend
as far as live-tv goes?

I rolled back to 17.6 as I found it more responsive as far as livetv goes, but keen to help assist/debug anywhere i can to assist in improving Kodi 18's capabilities.

Thanks for the help and the ongoing improvements to NextPVR!

Way back in the distant past, before Kodi could officially timeshift live tv, the NextPVR addon had a hack in place that could sort of allow it to do this. Later Kodi introduced it's official API supporting timeshift, which semi broke what NextPVR was doing. The NextPVR addon was not updated to support this new timeshift API. In the Kodi 18 they've then changed the api again, entirely breaking live tv timeshift in the addon. mikeb8591 (a NextPVR user), has now updated the NextPVR addon to support the kodi 18 timeshift api. Yes, kodi 18 is still very much a work in progress in general, but this at least has a NextPVR addon which at least supports the timeshift API requirements of Kodi.

I'm mikeb8591 over on kodi forums, and I've been using the live shifting here without running into many issues, but I'm using the pi kodi client, not the windows version. If you could turn on debug logging, and reproduce your problem, post a link to it and I'll be happy to look at it.

I've noted that different daily builds seem to behave quite differently(same plug in version), I think there's still some work going on in the kodi side that drastically affects the experience.

Hi Mike, I've PM'd you some different threads open on the Kodi Forums, but only used normal level logging, i'm trying to replicate the issue now. Generally, the easiest way is to let live tv play for a while, then try and skip back a period of time.

Rolling back to 17.6 gives me stability, but since Kodi 18 is the way forward, keen to help test and provide logs in hope of improving the capability.

Cheers.

Yes, I saw that and have started looking at it. I've been unable to replicate this through just some simple skipping around the tsb but I have seen an issue with being at the beginning of the tsb, and trying to move before it, that I will fix. This testing was done on win64 kodi, with the 7/21 nightly build.

Hi Mike,

Thanks again for looking at the issue. It seems if its a small buffer (5-10 mins), all is fine, but once it gets a bit larger, it can't seem to recover. I've been updating this thread https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=333746 with some updated info, but seeing a few other random issues which may or may not be related.

Here are the details:

As a follow-up to this, which may show in the uploaded logs, every time I watch live tv, about 5-10 seconds after a channel starts playing, there is a Kodi progress bar and and a stutter, then another Kodi progress bar followed by a slight longer stutter and then the picture seems to reprocess, sometimes it looks like the picture is good, then after the 2nd stutter, it looks like it loses some/all of its de-interlacing. After this its usually stable (other than rewinding larger time frames), but the Kodi progress bar pops up at random for seemingly no reason.

See none of this on Kodi 17 FYI, so I don't believe its infrastructure/backend TV config related. To clarify, by Kodi progress bar, I mean the Progress Circle that appears.

Thanks Again!!

I've been running Windows 10 x64 on 2 different Systems with the current Nightly and various others going back to the 16/07/2018 Nightly.

Guys, just to confirm, that timeshift (which only works by the way on Windows, not on Android yet) with next pvr addon and kodi 18 Leia latest nightly cannot rewind. Well, to be exact, it does take the command as I see repeated rewind clicks to increase the rewind factor (2x, 4x, 8x...) but nothing is happening on the screen, and once I press play to start playing kodi freezes...
Attaching the logs...
