New user here. I have a HD Homerun connect picking up OTA in DFW, Tx. Next PVR picks up all the channels, and they all play fine. However, the EPG, while showing all the channels available, only has program info on about half of the channels. I am trying to migrate from WMC, and its EPG shows all the channels and all the program data for 2 weeks. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Should I delete and start over? Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately the OTA in the states is only required to transmit 6 hours of listings, so that is all most channels transmit. If you hit 'update epg' you'll likely see all channels have listings...for at least the next 6 hours.

In reality 6 hours of listings is next to useless for PVR use, so most people in that part of the world end up getting a Schedules Direct account, which gives 2+ weeks of listings, and better data (along with artwork, and season/episode numbers etc).

Most of the rest of the world fare better, and are lucky enough to usually get full week of listings from OTA.

Schedules Direct takes all the hassle out of EPG updates. You can learn more (and sign up) here: http://schedulesdirect.org/

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I worded the problem poorly. Some channels show up in the EPG, but they have no program info. If they had 6 hours, I would know that at least it is working, but about half the channels have no data at all, while some of them have about 2 days worth. I have hit update epg, and these channels still are not populated with any data.

It's still a similar problem. Some OTA stations in the US only broadcast a few hours of guide data, while others simply don't broadcast any guide data at all. Sad You can get up to 14 days of data from Schedule Direct. It makes scheduling recordings much easier. Smile

I have a couple stations that broadcast data a day or two in advance and a couple that give no data. One channel reboots their computer at 5am every morning and it's off air until about 5:15am. For awhile I did my epg updates at 5 am. It really screwed everything up.

Any hoo, I got tired and went with Schedules Direct and it's well worth the cup of coffee a month that it costs.

If you haven't broken it at least once, you're not doing it right.

OTA EPG is garbage it just isn't going to ever be useful. If you don't want to pay you can use zap2xml with a FREE zap2it or FREE tvGuide account.

Follow the directions HERE.
A couple of notes on the above instructions:
1. It mentions a way to not have to use an account but that does not work. You need an account, but it's free anyway.
2. Once you create your account, make sure you choose your zip code and OTA channel listings on the zap2it web site.
3. Once zap2it lists all the channels in your area, go though the list and click the STAR for the channels you actually want to get EPG data for.
4. When creating the UpdateEPG.bat file, if you put that file in the same folder as zap2xml then you don't need the first line.
5. You should add one more line at the bottom of the bat file that is just the word "Exit". This will allow the window to close when done.

Once all that is done you can schedule the bat file to run automatically at a specific time using the instructions HERE.
Schedule this to run about 30 minutes BEFORE you have NextPVR scheduled to update the data.
