About what specifically?

As per the warning message you were shown in NextPVR v4 when you setup IPTV, most IPTV streams are pretty dodgy and often unreliable. If you've got some issues you want to dig into, to find out if it's stream or nextpvr issues, I'm happy to take a closer look, but it'll have to be using NextPVR v5, since that is the current release and the only one I'm actively maintaining now. As mentioned, NextPVR v5 also does a better job with IPTV streams, so it's a better starting point.

Martin first got my attention, and you just did the same.
You both said "NextPVR v5 also does a better job with IPTV streams".
What do you mean by that?
What does V5 do better with IPTV streams, that V4 doesn't.

Too many things to mention check the changelog.

However now that v5 is at the stable release phase the most important consideration for me would be continuity. If your IPTV breaks and sub needs to make a fix that will be in v5 The code has diverged and he might not even be able to fix v4. Personally as a one man show he may not even have time for both.

Before I even start to convert to V5, can someone tell me if the client version will now run on a PC separate from the server?
I thought I read in the changelog that this wouldn't work.

Sub has chosen the wise option to work on a modern client with newer technology. You should be able to use Kodi or the web browser UI in your other rooms or better yet move off PC clients.

We are so far off topic it is shameful but is there something specific you are looking for in the client?

Martin,
I agree, we are really off topic here and should end this discussion.
As always, thanx for taking the time to help me and many others.

v5's IPTV support basically started from where I was at with IPTV in v4, and added a further year of bug fixes and improvements. There were lot improvements around the stream itself - being able to limit the number of connections for a specific IPTV provider, better reporting of errors, resilience to small interruptions, handling different types of redirect/protection schemes that some IPTV providers use (and v4 couldn't handle), ability to control the headers sent as needed by some IPTV providers, more efficient async streaming implementation, etc. There is also a lot of improvements around the UI for importing/managing the streams, like being able to select groups of channels to import (which saying you only want the US & UK channels from an m3u), and being able to update the m3u.

Ultimately though, it's still only as good as the source stream. My official NZ IPTV streams, that are supplied by the broadcasters themselves work are miles better than most of the streams from dodgy IPTV providers.

sub,
thanx for the expanded response.
for me personally, not having the ability to run the client on a different PC is not ideal.
that said, I guess I need to start digging into V5 and get with the program Smile
