Hi All! Happy Holidays!

I am thrilled that the project is still alive and well! After several years of using WMC for recording protected content, we have decided to dump the cable company and move to streaming. I setup with Rokus and I have YouTube TV and Philo for the content we watch. It is great for the live TV and streaming content, but we like to record network TV shows and skip through commercials (like most good civilized people Wink ) I have a HVR-2250 up and working with OTA channels and am ready to come home to GBPVR...I mean NextPVR! I have looked through the Wiki and searched a lot of the forum, but have some basic questions on the path forward. Seems like there are several possibilities.

My goal is to record OTA channels and get them in an ordered manner to a pile of Rokus. Having access to an EPG and the ability to schedule recordings from the Roku would be nice. But not totally required. Also would like to have the recordings in some kind of order by the title of the shows that we record. Finally, comskip would be nice, but not required.

So I see Emby, Plex and others. What plugins do I need? Feel free to point me at a post and I will move from there. What is a cleanest path forward.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, I forgot. I'm not sure where this post belongs, so feel free to move it. Got NPVR up and running. Simple to set it up.

The problem with Roku is that they have not supported MPEG2 codec or the ts container that NXTPVR uses. It seems that Roku has recently added some support for MPEG2 in their medial player app. I have seen a demo of their Media Player working on a SilconDust HDHomeRun. Maybe, just my opinion, they want to support Amazon's new Fire TV Recast OTA Digital Video Recorder. All though the Roku SDK has no support for MPEG2.

If you want to play your recordings on Roku you will have to transcode them to H264 in a mp4 container or fire up a DLNA sever, that will do the transcoding, that is supported by Roku.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did a test recording in NextPVR , and I can pull it up on the Emby channel on the Roku and it does play fine. I did not set up any transcoding in Emby, but I guess it could be automatically doing it. But so far I can't get the NextPVR plugin to do anything in Emby. Not sure what I'm missing. I assume I will see my NextPVR configured channels and perhaps the EPG data (that is coming from the stream)?

So I got it all to work through to the Roku. I had to get the premier version of Emby which I am doing for testing now. Seems to work OK in my limited tests. So far I found you cant watch a recording in progress as it crashes the Roku channel when you click on it. Also, there does not seem to be a way to cancel a recording from Emby once it is in progress.

I use Serviio with just the plain Roku Media Player. It's on all free. Serviio will do the transcoding when necessary. It also allows you to use "online" sources so for live TV you just setup each channel with the NPVR ip address. I've never had watching live TV while recording.

Here is something neat ROKU users who use NPVR might be interested in. I have it setup but mainly use Serviio.

See this ROKU thread. https://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=37526 Like I said, I have this setup on my Roku's and it works. The thread starts out: I developed a Roku channel for NPVR that allows you to watch, search and schedule recordings directly from your Roku. You won't need your NPVR machine next to your TV anymore.
She even has a private NextPVR channel.

If you haven't broken it at least once, you're not doing it right.

Thanks, I looked that over quickly and it seems to be a fairly complex setup, but I haven't looked into it that much.

I have the Emby plugin and channel working. It does seem to die on live tv after about 15 minutes, and my ability to schedule recordings seems to be broken. It worked for a while, but then now doesn't work. So stability seems suspect.

I also am able watch recorded TV (no scheduling) using free Playon and the Mymedia channel.

Is there any other path to the Roku that allows scheduling recordings and watching playback besides Emby or that developmental channel posted above?

Seems like I am greedy, but want to pick the best option with the highest WAF. I am already shaking her world with this change. Wink
