Some "Artwork" questions

Hi

For some programs i have "bad" arworks. For instance, for a program "Non Stop" which is a show, i have a movie poster (beacause there is a movie with the french title "Non Stop".

Anyway, it seems that the issue comes from artwork downloaded from internet.

I disabled services others than Shedules Direct in NextPVR Artwork settings and it seems ok but i have some questions. I don't use Shedules Direct but a xml file which seems to have links to picture for at least some programs.

My questions :

Should i disable services like "TheTVDB", "TheMovieDatabase", "FanArt.tv" ?

Sould i keep "Shedules Direct" service even if i'm not a member ?

What about "Download Types" : should i disable all except "Thumbnails" ?

I didn't found a wiki page for "Artwork" settings. Does it exist somewhere ?

In v4 definitely disable Schedules Direct since it has a logic bug and will call SD when it shouldn't

If you don't like the art you can certainly turn it off or you can also try and find the art you like manually via the NextPVR UI. NextPVR doesn't create thumbnails from videos so you can turn that off too.

It is likely that you are going to have to do artwork by trial and error.

You will not get anything from Schedules Direct because you have no account. I suggest that you try each of the other options one at a time and see what you get. It might be, for example, that two are good sources of artwork and one is not good.

Plus, I believe that NextPVR attempts to find artwork using links in the XMLTV file ... if there are links to artwork in the XMLTV.

People using Schedules Direct for their EPG have it a bit better than the rest of us. Schedules Direct also provides the artwork, so NextPVR can get the artwork quicker, and it's always for the correct show.

For any other EPG sources, NextPVR can only really do name searches against thetvdb.org and themoviedb.org to try to find some matching art. For mainstream shows, at least with English in my experence, this tends to be fairly accurate. It's definitely possible to the incorrect artwork with this approach though. (NextPVR will use the presence of season/episode numbers, or 'movie' genre, to help determine which results it should use if both services return artwork, so having these in your EPG source can help the accuracy a little)

I'm personally using a combination of DVB EPG and XMLTV, so also at the mercy of this.

It seems that my new xml file has a lot of links to images. So i try to uncheck all service to see it avoid "bad" artwork.

It could be useful to have a setting like "search on services only if there isn't an image link in XML", no ?

I made tests : i need to check "Poster" if i want to have an image displayed in NPVR guide (after pressing "enter" key) and in Kodi guide.

So, are links in XML file used ? I think yes because even with all services unchecked, NPVR guide display an image, which seems to be the one linked in the XML file. For instance :

Sub answered your question on how art is obtained. Links aren't stored anywhere but you are free to download them yourself.

It is displayed only if the 2 settings in red are ticked in the above capture, even if all services are disabled.

If images doesn't comes from links in xml, where does they comes from ?

The ticks in the Settings->Artwork only determine if artwork is downloaded. Once it's downloaded, it'll always show it on these screens. It stores a copy of the artwork in c:\users\public\NPVR\media\shows. (You may also need to delete the files from c:\users\public\NPVR\thumbs)

Ok. I checked my thumbs directory and it was empty, it seems to be cleared when using the button "Clear Cached Artwork" from NPVR\Setiings\Artwork. I use this button when i make tests.

But from where are downloaded artworks if all services are disabled in Artwork settings ?!

I can only see these informations in log but don't see the source :
