Gave it some thought and avoided some / still had a couple of other hiccoughs when using new installer for first time.

First - Deleted the C:/Program Files/NPVR folder that I have been using v5 from up till now.

Second -   ran sc delete "NextPVR service" from the command prompt (Spotted that - thanks Martin)

Third - Ran the new installer - got a bit of a surprise that its an online installer now.

On logging in to the server for the first time, nothing was working, then Bitdefender informed me it had stopped some malicious software - that's never happened with NPVR before!

Four - returned 4 files from quarantine (vue.min.js, nextpvr client.lnk, nexpvr tray.lnk and wscript.exe from system32) and made exceptions in Bitdefender.

All appears to be working fine now, although maybe I should run the installer again, just to make sure everything got updated.

I have also changed the service startup to un-delayed, as Kodi runs from the startup folder and both him and the wife get stroppy waiting three minutes for the service to start  Big Grin Also added restart service to the first 2 fail options in service properties.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Very helpful, thanks
However I would delete the service before deleting the folder.
Not sure if that really matters

As mentioned above:

sc delete "NextPVR service"

You'd need to run this from a command prompt started with 'run as administrator'.

First delete service, then the folder. Not the other way around as mentioned above Smile
I was very happy to see that the settings did not get lost.

You should be fine to do that.

If think if you upgrade using just the installer you will have troubles because a registry key won't exist. You need to download NPVR.zip and continue to install manually to stay in NPVR or import this registry key before running the installer

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NPVR]
"V5_InstallDir"="C:\\Program Files\\NPVR\\"

Thanks. That was super easy. Picked up the guide and everything.

I guess, seeing as v5 was previously installed in a 'NPVR' directory, and the new one is in a 'NextPVR' directory, I can just delete the 'NPVR' directory ? There's nothing in it I need to keep ?

I think the only thing that might be left in NPVR of value would be manually created tuning INI files.
