Firstly, thank you in advance.

I am a new user. I have a Synology NAS, Installed NextPVR_amd64 from within Docker application.

NextPVR runs and I have setup M3U URL and EPG etc, no issues.

However if I try and test any of the channels (from Browser) I get the error message "Stream Failed Transcoder Exited". I tried to record a channel and it seems to record (however it says server isn't fast enough for playback)

I only want to use NextPVR on Apple TV but I don't want to buy the App if it isn't going to work. If I can get it working from my PC/Browser etc then ill get the ATV App.

Im wondering if I haven't configured the Docker container correctly? I simply downloaded via Docker Registry, hit Install/Launch.

Saw some comments about setting directories/user permissions etc but I simply don't know how to do these? I thought these would be setup by default within the Docker Container/Image

Synology has various CPUs so the speed issue could certainly be real. You can try and see if yours supports h/w transcoding.

If the ATV is capable of direct play then the transcoding speed of the NAS is irrelevant.

Thanks. I have the DS918+ it has been more than capable to date with anything I have thrown at it. Like to think It can handle running NextPVR?

It ran Live TV (HDHR) with Plex, currently transcoding movies etc without any issue. But if it is just a performance/CPU issue with transcoding to a browser then that's okay because I believe the ATV will Direct Play. But I would need to be sure before I spend the money on the ATV App

Yes so try the HW transcoding and let us know. If you set up Plex docker you probably have a line like

--device /dev/dri:/dev/dri

so use the same thing in NextPVR and try VAAPI mode.

Did you update the device too?

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. If its related to Docker then I have no knowledge yet of how to use it. NextPVR is the only program I am using/ever used for Docker. Plex runs native on the Synology.

Update the command you used to start docker to include the --device line I posted earlier.

Sorry, I haven't used any commands previously with Docker. Using the Docker GUI I simply hit download NextPVR and then launch. I don't know where to put the --device /dev/dri:/dev/dri command you mentioned.

A quick Google search gives https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/125293 which says you can't specify parameters on the Docker GUI in a Synology NAS. So you'll need to:
Quote:you can do a docker run with extra parameters via SSH command line, not sure if mac-address is supported or not but it cant hurt to try.

the container will show up in the GUI once you create it, so you can stop/start it from there afterwards if required. just dont edit it in there or youll lose anything they dont support (which is pretty much everything).
