Can't Identify Capture Cards...

Well, I've got NextPVR installed on my Media Computer.  I see both cards on the Devices page.  With a little bit of experimentation, I've figured out how to use the serial-port control on my DirecTV box, and USBUIRTSend has learned my IR codes and can control my cable box.

   One issue...

Since I have two Hauppauge Colossus2 cards in my computer, I need to identify which is which.  Hauppauge WinTV shows me the serial # of each card, so I've been able to figure out which card captures from which box.  Unfortunately, NextPVR doesn't do this for me.  All it shows in the 'Devices' page is two instances of "Hauppauge Colossus Sienna".

Now - I can likely figure out which is which, by setting up one card and changing the settings if I get it wrong... but I was hoping for a less awkward way of doing it.

Is it possible for you to display each card's serial number in the Devices list?  If not - if Hauppauge uses some proprietary trick to read the serial number of each card - it's not a big deal... I was just hoping I could make things easier for myself.   Big Grin

Note - while WinTV can *see* both cards, it can only *USE* one of them... so I can't actually see that a video stream is being captured from my cable box.  (I'm just assuming it is - since the stream is coming from the DirecTV box perfectly...)

Question - would the card with the lower serial number be displayed first?  If so, that would make things easier to figure out.

Thanks in advance...

If you can edit a sqlite database then you can make the name more friendly.

I don't even know what that is... :o

Under what directory would I find it?

Don't worry wait for sub to make sure something unique is displayed.

Can you zip and attach your logs?

Also take a look in your the devices.log. There is some big long device:pnp strings in there. I wanted to see if your serial number was hidden in the middle of those strings.

I'm attaching the zipped logs for you, sub - I'm also attaching a zip file of the WinTV logs directory, perhaps you can glean some info out of that.  If you want me to get the 'extended' WinTV logs, let me know.

So you know - WinTV shows my Colossus cards as having serial numbers 13975971 and 14024181.

Attached Files
.zip   logs.zip (Size: 5.55 KB / Downloads: 2)
.zip   WinTVLogs.zip (Size: 7.79 KB / Downloads: 1)

I think I found it...

If you look in the log file, it shows a 'pid=' followed by a string of hex numbers.  i.e. my first one is 'pid_e585#e585-00-00d5fdf5#'.  I found an online hex-to-decimal converter, and discovered that the last segment translates to the serial number.

So - 00d5fdf5 is serial number 14024181, and 00d541a3 is 13975971.

Don't know what changes would need to be made to get them to be shown, though... Smile

Yep, that's it. Unfortunately it's a proprietary thing, and not the same on other devices, so not a universal way to find serial numbers to display.

I'll see if I can find somewhere to display it though.

Thanks.

Even if there was an 'Details' option to display the hardware info, that would be a big help.  I realize that my situation won't come up very often, so I'm not concerned about getting it dealt with tomorrow.   Big Grin

Out of curiosity, and to revisit my first post - does the devices list get sorted in any way?  If I were to look at the log, and see which card gets recognized first, is that card at the top of the list?  Or is it last-found-first-listed?  Or is it just random?  If I can figure out how to determine which card is which, that's all I really need.

It's likely in whatever order you installed the devices in your machine. If you installed them both at the same time, then who knows, but it should be consistent after you've determined which is which.
