Once in a while the screen goes blank while watching live tv. Sound continues. I can navigate the menus (by guess only). Everything still appears to work but the screen is blank. I have to restart the computer to get the screen back on. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a WinPVR 250 card and an ATI 9250 256meg video card.

Not to sound trite, but is your screen saver on?

No. I thought the same thing about the screen saver. At first it was on. I turned it off. Still same problem. Sometimes it actually lasts about 15min or more before the screen goes blank. I have even managed to watch entire programs without a blank screen. But, it still happens and is quite annoying when it happens in the middle of a show that I am watching and recording, especially since I don't dare restart the computer to get the screen back for fear of losing my show that is recording.

Can you watch for long periods of time in WinTV2000?

I've been trying the WinTV2000. It hasn't gone blank on me yet. I'm going to leave it playing all night tonight to see if it goes blank by morning.

Well, it appears the same thing happens in WinTV2000 as well. It just took longer. Back to the drawing board. I will find the solution eventually.

check to see if your motherboard power management is set, it may not be able to tell you are using the tv card like windows power management can (also settings within wintv2k about allowing system screen saver).

I had the same issue with my bios shutting off my hard drive every 5 minutes while watching a movie from cd and then windows would wake it right back up (that made for a lot of noise!)

Definetely sounds like a power management thing

Also, try just making sure to touch the mouse < 5 min. If that keeps it from blanking (and the MB suggestion was a smart call), you have some kind of power saving setting somewhere to track down.

Problem - TV goes blank at random intervals of watching TV or recorded shows.

Catalyst ver 5.3 for video card drivers.

1) Multiple configuration changes to the GBPVR config setup - no difference
2) I switched from the ATI Radeon 9250 to Radeon 900 Pro - no difference
3) Multiple configation changes in the GBPVR config setup - no difference
4) Updated to newly available Radeon drivers(Catalyst ver 5.4) - no difference in blanking problem but TV output can be set to be forced on even if not detected (good update).
5) Just realized that only the TV output was going black, not monitor output (didn't have a monitor on it).
6) Changed back to Radeon 9250 - running for 8 hours and no blank TV ouput.

I guess it was the newest Catalyst control and drivers for the Radeon 9250 that solved the problem. The problem still persists for the Radeon 9000 Pro.
