I have ripped all of my DVDs to my PVR. and am now in the middle of a project to import them into NPVR. I first use VidImport to create the XML file, then import it into NPVR.

I have not worked on this project in several months but tonight wanted to do a little work on it. When I tried to use vidimport by dragging both a folder and the contents of the folder onto VidIimport (the same way I did several months ago) a command prompt Window opened (as usual) but only the VidImport version info was displayed in the command prompt window and no xml document was created. I even tried a folder I had previously successfully completed with no luck.

Before trying this I did upgrade to NPVR version 5. Should that matter? Version 4.2.5 is also still installed.

I tried redownloading vidimport and rebooting my PVR. I also verified that dot net 3.5 was installed.

Anyone know how I can get vidimport working again, or is there something else more recent I can use.

I manually import the XML after I edit the data, IE add show description, the actors etc since vidimport did not do that. So whatever recommended utility, if not VidImport, does not need to do that.

Thank You
Kevin

Martin has an import utility ... I suspect that it is a bit of a work in progress ...

There are threads describing its use in various scenarios ... One such thread is ...

My utility is more designed to help users upgrade recordings from one instance of NextPVR to another or to change OS platforms. It doesn't currently go to any meta data sites to get meta data but it will bring in properly names recordings with S/E or movie years and also reads NextPVR format XML and standard NFO files. I probably will be adding TV Maze support for my own use.

The current version is here https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid549133 The Windows instructions are sligthly different if you are interested let me know.

I have written my own program to modify the metadata, I have to do so manually, however it is easier then opening the XML files and shifting through the XML code.

How is it used. Should it be copied to a certain older? I currently have it in a "NextImport" folder on the desktop, when running a window opens and closes so fast it could be missed.

I did mention that you would need instructions. How are your files name and will the all be in one folder or in several?

My files are in mkv format. My file names are SXX EXX Episode Name. I have a folder for each show with folders for each season. However I only do one season at a time. IE an XML file for each season.

Ok MKV is not the best format for web based v5 and I'm not sure if NextPVR.exe will handle them as recordings either, but Kodi can take them.

Try the attached first to see how the parsing will work

- make a backup copy of npvr.db3
- unnzip into the NextPVR program folder
- delete NextImport.runtimeconfig.json
- run

NextImport --import drive:\folder

if you omit folder it will scan all your drives.  If your folder name has spaces make sure to have quotes around it ie "D:\Recordings On DVD"

Will this import the files in the provided folder or just create the XML. I just want the XML so I can add the missing metadata.

No it adds it to the database. Bu you can add some steps

- In the web app Settings->General Export Recordings
- stop the server service and copy the npvr.db3 backup.
