Remote not working (BootIntoGBPVR)/GBPVR start another program -any ideas?

This relates to getting GBPVR looking like a PVR and not a PC.

I've re-installed Windows XP this week and the stand alone filters pack.
I've used the BootIntoGBPVR guide on the Wiki - auto logging in a user but as GBPVR starts as the shell instead of Explorer the Ir.exe application does not start as the startup directory doesn't get called.

I have tried a suggestion to launch the IR app using a scheduled task but although it is in task manager it doesn't work until I have restarted the IR.exe program.

So can anyone suggest a way to make the IR.exe program work when GBPVR is started as the shell (or just make GBPVR launch another application/program when it starts) as I am trying to make GBPVR look like a stand alone product and not a computer. I really need to get this working.

(Hauppauge Nova-T PCI using 45 button Hauppauge remote on Windows XP with Hauppauge software installed).

Have you tried the "Direct access to remote" box on the Misc tab of Config?

It should switch PVRX2 to control the remote and ir.exe is not required.

Hi Graham, thanks for the input but i think that only makes a difference for a couple of cards, the Hauppauge PVR-350 I think is one (and maybe the 250?). I think that is what i read in a couple of the threads - but i will try

make it into a service? [srvany] or many other tools can do it..
also, look into the cmd line tool sc.exe [built into win]
it should be all that's needed to make ir program into a service that always gets run..
you may have to play with the permissions, setting it to interact with desktop..
here's an example line..:

sc create "irservice" binpath= "C:\Path\ir32.exe" type= share type= interact start= auto

then run net start irservice to start it up..

creates a service called irservice, with interactw/desktop in one step..
i'm not sure if ir program will run that way but i think i remember someone doing it..
it may need working dir to be set properly but maybe not..

otherwise, there are many other places that autorun even when explorer isn't shell..
but services should run under any shell..
also, winpe[bartpe] uses minimal shells that also have autoruns..
[could even use bartpe as shell i think, and put gbpvr in startup..as well as ir]
for advanced users..

hmm i stand corrected and may look into that further, it doesn't seem to work on mine but i'll have a play around more.

Edit: well that is strange, i've been playing around with it all day and remote was doing nothing without IR.exe. Now in the last hour i've installed a twin tuner (NovaT500) and plugged the received into that as i believe it only works on the most recently installed card - and it works! Thanks Graham for pointing out that it was working for you, i had assumed it had to have the IR.exe installed - thank you for correcting me

Also pBS thank you making the example line and providing me the info for srvany.exe and sc.exe - i havent had to use them but may come in handy for the future.

Graham - quick further question, do all the buttons on your remote work? (assuming its a hauppauge one) I've had a quick play and the back/exit and menu buttons don't work but are pretty essential. I can't remember if i have used the 'fix 45 button remote' option but don't want to until i've made a disk image. Everything is working really nicely at the moment and i want to keep it that way!

EDIT: I tried the 45 button fix and it had a strange effect that when i opened a file explorer window, i couldnt get past the 'my computer' part. So trying to view the contents of the C drive i got bounced straight back to the my computer part - so i'm putting an image i took earlier in the day back on now.
Edit: Tried again and although the above directory problem is gone the back/exit key,menu,rewind/FF etc keys still don't work. The irremote.ini file has matching commands in but nothing happens. Oh now it's stuck and won't show me any other directories again

Bugger. Before I posted, I did a quick test and the keys that I tested did work. I have now been a bit more thorough and some keys don't work. Dunno why.

Have you tried putting ir.exe in 'ere ...
