Update existing channel numbers during scan?

I noticed that a new checkbox labeled " Update existing channel numbers during scan " in the general settings page - what exactly does this do if checked?

This was always the default behaviour. You now have the ability to disable it by unticking.

If you rescan, and a channel called DUKE, which was previously on channel 12 now says it is on 25, then the scan will update the channel number.
