Let me start by saying that this is a margin use case and I really don't expect it to be possible, but if you don't ask....

There are some series, Wheeler Dealers is the one I am looking at now, which have been on repeat for so long that I can guarantee that any episodes from series 1-11 I will have seen multiple times so don't want to record. Episodes from later series I may not have seen, or may only have seen once (cooking tv if you've only seen it once Smile ).

Is there a way to filter in the recording scheduler?

If not - I don't think it's worth wasting any time on, but if it already exists and I didn't notice it I would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

Cheers!

Depends on your guide data. If you have a season field, then you can create an advanced recording with season > 11 as one of the conditions.

Thanks for the reply!

I use Schedules Direct which are as good as I can get in the UK.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but how do I create an advanced recording?

Thanks!

You didn't specify the client.

I have had the same problem with Wheeler Dealers!! I have tried all sorts to stop recording versions I have seen recently. Sometimes Quest seem to reset the IDs at the new year so the same version was recoded late December and again early January!!
One way to stop recording early series is to do an Advanced recording and specify the word "Ant" to appear in the description as he started in series 14! New episodes tend to be first broadcast in the same time slot 9pm Thursday. That is true this week with 2nd of 16 episodes of series 16 so will work for a few months as not sure if they go back to old episodes at the end of the series!
I have just the one "New" recording this week but last week had 3 random recordings! Series 17 which thankfully returns to UK soil has another presenter as "Ant" is replaced by "Elvis" when that is on Quest so my current Advanced recording wont work so will change it to a time slot advanced recording.

The OP reported he is using Schedules Direct which typically won't have guide scheduling issues like that.

Now I've switched on my brain, yeah it looks like I have the data to filter on season or Ant Smile

As for client - apologies for not replying - I generally watch via Kodi or even Plex, but all recordings are set and managed using the NPVR web client. I can see how to search with additional fields such as description, but not how to search in the season field?

As an aside "Elvis" left McLaren in 2009 - I think he's a decent presenter, but he has been working in media for 12 years now - he worked at McLaren for 9, this makes the exaggerated references to F1 a bit forced!

Thanks again!

To use season you would need an advanced query and create the criteria yourself. As you noted this is a margin use case and sub can't create the UI for everyone.

You need to enter something like

name like "Wheeler Dealers%" and season > 11

That's understood and TBH I'm very impressed it is even possible!

Where do I create the advanced query?

Thanks!

In the web app, go to the Search page, click 'More Options', type 'Wheeler Dealers' is the title, and click 'Create Recording'. You'll be shown a popup for creating a named based recording, with the advanced field populated with the query. Add the "and season > 11" bit.
