I have been running peer to peer networking since the dos days & never had much problems (apart from one batch of network cards that had the jumper config printed on the card that was wrong) but since two different clean installs (on two different computers) of the 20021/22 w10 (over the last year) & both of them not always being visible to each other, more often not visible than visible yet mostly always visible by my old NextPVR server which is running w10 upgraded from a long(ish) time installed w7 install I am just about at my wits end. I have spent hours with google search & tried a heap of stuff about network discovery but all to no improvement.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes read about the security issues with SMB v1 and decide if you want to reenable it to bring you back to DOS days maybe check here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...mbv1-v2-v3

Running Win 11 here now with now drive issues.

I had lots of problems with Windows 10 not showing other PCs and servers on my network. Or they'd appear then disappear :-(.  I too had tried all sorts of tricks and Snake Oil to enable discovery but everything kept failing until I turned IP6 back on. I didn't need IP6 on my network so I thought it was a good idea to turn it off on the Windows 10 machines when I uplifted from Windows 7.

I read somewhere that since the demise of SMB1, the MS discovery process only worked reliably if IP6 was available.

Still doubting that info, I thought I'd give it a go....

Result! All my machines now appear in the Network tab on every PC/Server on my network. It's been working reliably for over 18 months now :-)

As a trial (not necessary to keep it enabled) I decided to enable SMB v1 as that was a simple thing to do & yes I did cold boot both of them after changing the settings to the same as are on the current NextPVR server ....but alas still no network discovery from either of those machines Sad but the old server can still see & access both.

Bobins I also checked that IPv6 was enabled & yep enabled all along on both of them

SMB1 would need to enabled one all your PC's Have you got NETBIOS over TCP/IP enabled and set with WINS

I assume the setting with WINS is where it is enabled? I have now changed to static ip address which is what I normally have anyway (but hadn't got around to it yet) on my pc & I have done this also on my sisters new NextPVR server pc as well .... the old server was already done this way & once you do that WINS defaults to basically enabling if you have a fixed ip. My pc now shows as networked on itself & also on the other two pc's but my sisters doesn't show on either so half way there now ... as long as it sticks as they have both worked at times & not again later before.

Primarily I am worried that when I go to hook up with UiDroid it could be a problem if the network doesn't show.... & yes I realise the chromecast is not running windows so possibly it isn't a problem there but I don't know that one way or the other.

For sure you want a static IP but the discovery protocol does not need this or a share. However this discussion does remind me of the share issues people had updating from XP to Vista and Win7 for their NMT.

Jaggy have you tried this one? I was not seeing my windows 10 shares on other PCs and this worked for me. Found on the web a while ago.

SOLUTION:
Go into Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services And look for the two services

"Function Discovery Provider Host" &
"Function Discovery Resource Publication"

Set both services to "Automatic (Delayed Start") Now right click each of these two services, and start them.

Should have added in my post that I had to turn "Function Discovery Provider Host" &

"Function Discovery Resource Publication" on too. I'd tried that before turning IP6 back on and it didn't work so it does need IP6 to be enabled to function correctly.
