Dvbv5 workaround for Raspberry Pi?

Hey guys,

I'm currently trying to set up the NextPVR server on my Raspberry Pi (using the 64bit Raspberry OS) for DVB-S usage. Unfortunately, scanning for  channels doesn't work. The server finds the device (Sundtek DVB-S/S2 (VIII)) but scanning for channels simply yields nothing. Logs indicate that NextPVR isn't able to find a device when scanning, even though it is recognised in the device section and enabled. Running dvbv5-scan on his own indicates the same problem. According to this thread in the Raspberry Pi forum, dvbv5-scan doesn't work on any arm system.

Can somebody confirm this? It seems a bit odd to me. And if it's true, is there a workaround to avoid dvbv5-scan? Importing channels from other sources isn't currently implemented from what I understood.

Thank you for your help

I've definitely used NextPVR with DVB-T tuners on RPi devices in the past. It was mainly with RPi3 using Raspbian, with various DVB-T tuners. I'm pretty sure I also tested it with RPi4 at some stage too.

NextPVR doesn't actually use dvbv5-scan, but they both use libdvbv5, so checking in dvbv5-scan is usually a good test to confirm what channels you should receive in NextPVR v5 on a Linux device.

Post your logs, and we'll take a look what is reported.

Apologies, I thought I attached the logs.

Okay, appearently uploading files is something I can't figure out. Weird. Anyway, the NextPVR log:

2022-03-05 17:55:06:070 [DEBUG] Scanning from /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E
2022-03-05 17:55:06:071 [DEBUG] Channel config will be saved to /var/opt/nextpvr/adapter0-DVB-S-channels-scan.conf
2022-03-05 17:55:06:071 [INFO] Using LNBf:

You need to attach the zipped logs that NextPVR creates.

What does

ls -ltR /dev/dvb

show.

Voila
By the way, w_scan works fine and scans channels.

Edit: Added console output - maybe not, does it need to be a zip?

Here's the output:

ls -ltR /dev/dvb
/dev/dvb:
total 0
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 100 Mar  5 21:13 adapter0

/dev/dvb/adapter0:
total 0
crwxrwxrwx 1 root root 212, 1 Mar  5 21:13 demux0
crwxrwxrwx 1 root root 212, 2 Mar  5 21:13 dvr0
crwxrwxrwx 1 root root 212, 0 Mar  5 21:13 frontend0

Yes only zips can be attached,

What if you change the group of /dev/dvb to video from root.

Does ls -lt /dev/dvb/adapter0 show them in the video group now?

Not sure what to say, it feels like a dvbv5 issue. I know user sundtek from Sundtek has visited this forum so you could try a PM.
