i have a hauppauge dual usb tv tuner

recordings are sometimes glitchy, but live tv is always fine

no signal issues

seems to be because of some sort of bottleneck, and i think it's the onboard intel gpu in my laptop

i'm running 2x 4k displays @ 30hZ during both recordings and live tv

any ideas on how i could fix recordings/prevent glitches?

You didn't and you didn't provide the zipped logs or even explain which client you used so as far as we are concerned there is no problem. Next time you have a bad recording, upload those logs. You can also upload a bad recording to a cloud drive and we can see if the recording is really bad or if it is a playback problem.

Note that because you have a dual tuner device recordings and live tv will use different tuners.

Depends what you mean by glitchy. Do you mean that they look like the framerate is a bit off / stuttering, or are you seeing the picture breakup / blocking?

Given that you're in Australia, might also be worth changing the displays to 50 Hz (or 25 Hz) and see if that helps, although since the live TV is okay I guess that's not the issue.

I've had some issues with the Hauppauge dualHD dropping packets, meaning that you get picture breakup / blocking. Seems to be somewhat random, and does also affect live TV. Things like that can often be on the "computer side" of things, i.e. the USB or PCI-e bus, and you can waste a lot of time trying to solve non-existant signal problems on the antenna side. Although, sometimes it is the antenna side! Smile

Kodi playback doesn't use any transcoding that setting is for browser playback.

changing nextpvr settings to use 'intel' for transcoding seems to have fixed it, at least for live recordings, however nextpvr states:

NOTE: On Windows, if you're using an AMD GPU, or a version of Windows earlier than Win10, acceleration is often only possible when running as a process, not a service.

i'm using windows 11, however i noticed that it only ever glitches out when used as a service

forgot to mention that it's picture break-up/blocking

Would be worth checking some of the original .ts files in something like VLC to see if the blocking is in the original recording or not.

You can use the codec information tool in VLC, look at the "Discontinuity" counter, if it increases during playback then there's missing data. It will increment if you seek in the file, that's normal.

unfortunately i already deleted the corrupt recordings, but everything seems to be fixed now after several days of recordings on various channels with no glitches
