Recently upgraded from v4 to v5. Working great!

As a user of NextPVR since v3.x, just wanted to say that I'm really happy with the upgrade to v5.2.6. It was probably about time because I don't believe the next version of KODI will support NPVR v4 any longer.

I am using a modest Windows 7 Pro PC based system with NextPVR as the back-end and KODI 19.3 as the front-end client, all within one box. Using a Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD TV Tuner for over-the-air HDTV reception. I realize that Win 7 is not really supported any more, but it has just worked fine as a PVR, and continues to do so. Great news is that it has no issues that I can find with the new version of NextPVR and the KODI client!

The basic v5 install process was very straightforward, but I will share a couple of mistakes that I made in migrating from my existing v4 setup, and then sorted out (by searching the forum for help).

1. Copying the old "npvr.db3" folder. I copied it to the wrong location in error somehow. Make sure you back up the old one and copy it to the correct path in v5. On Windows, that would be "C:\Users\Public\NPVR-Data".

2. Somehow I decided to delete and re-scan my TV channels. I use Schedules Direct, and that is not the default program guide when new channels are added. So it took me a day or so to figure out why my program guide was missing a lot of data. It turned out that the default was for DVB/ATSC EPG, which was pulling EPG data off the air!

All good now, and has been running flawlessly for about a month!

The configuration order is important. You need to configure your Schedules Direct lineup before you scan, and then you get the option to map the channels when you scan. Here's my one minute NextPVR install example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYuG6670bMo which in itself shows how amazing v5 is.

Hmmm... Thanks for the video! I assumed that I had Schedules Direct all configured and working here. But even now, whenever I click on "Scan channels" I don't get the guide prompt.

Your right, I guess sub doesn't do that for all the digital tuners, sorry. It would be a really nice feature for ATSC users too since the OTA guide is not recommended and without that initial configuration it prompts for the OTA EPG scan.

Good info! No biggie now since all channels are all scanned in, and I edited the Program Guide source for each of them. Schedules Direct "in the house" again!

One thing that finally did clue me in to the channel scan going sideways on me, was that it appeared to be waiting for OTA EPG data as it scanned. The OTA data is abysmal here. Only got about 24 hrs, and not all stations.
