Freezing/Buffering on Windows 11 (NPVR app only)

Hi There Team,

I've searched high and low on this forum for a solution.
Went down many rabbit holes.

I'm quite a computer guy so this has really stumped me.

I am running NPVR 5.2.7 (220410) on a Windows 11 Pro (Intel Celeron J4125 2.00 GHz, 8 GB RAM) machine.
It's hard-wired with an Ethernet cable directly to the modem.
Server and client are one machine.

I have tried everything from updating drivers, to ensuring codecs are updated, to port forwarding, firewall disabling/tweaking etc.

Unfortunately, NextPVR seems to Buffer/Freeze when using the desktop or web client.
(I prefer to use the desktop client)

What's funny about this is I ran some tests with my IPTV provider and everything works fine on other devices without NPVR.
I also installed MyIPTV and tried my provider's web player on the NPVR machine and I had no issues.
This issue only started when I decided to try to utilize NPVR for recording reasons.
It seems to come down to just NPVR on this machine.

I'm really not sure where I went wrong. I'm at a dead end now and you're all my last hope.

Does temporarily removing NPVRCCExtractor.ax and NPVRCCDump.ax from the client folder help? If not if you have an Android device, I'd install uidroid to see if the stream plays ok.

Hi Martin,

I appreciate your quick reply. I've seen you help so many people here so I was crossing my fingers that you'd be here.

I tried removing the above files (backed them up first, of course). No luck. It still buffers/freezes.

I don't have an Android device but I have tested on my iPhone, iPad, and on the Windows machine, I've tested with VLC, my provider's webplayer, and MyIPTV software with no issues.

I'm only experiencing this issue with NPVR desktop and web clients.

I hope this helps narrow the investigation down

If you do a recording, does the recording playback smoothly?

Ah, good thinking.

I recorded a 30 minute show and when I play it starts off fine and freezes after a little bit (same as live tv).

I left it thinking it was just buffering but it's been frozen for about 10 minutes now.

How is your CPU usage on your machine while trying to watch live tv?

2.6GB is a pretty big sample recording...!

Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (h264)
Video resolution: 1920x1080
Audio Codec: ADTS

The recording plays back completely fine to me in VLC so it seems the recording aspect of your PC is ok and the problem is playback via the client.
So when you playback this sample, it plays fine for a a while, hangs for 30mins and then resumes from where it left off?
This could be playback codecs (unlikely) video or chipset drivers or maybe the PC is simply overheating. You say it has an Intel Celeron J4125 processor so I'm assuming it's some sort of shoebox / NUC PC?
A bit of a leftfield suggestion but maybe try running with the lid off and make sure the PC isn't bunged up with fluff.
[edit] also check if you have any errors in the windows event log (applications and system) from the time when it hung)

Thank you for taking a look!

I just tried playing in VLC as well. I noticed that the parts that freeze, ended up creating a bit of a jump back loop in the video and it keeps happening as it goes.

It is a mini PC but as I said before. I've tested with other clients and don't experience any issues.

It's isolated to NPVR.
