The in-progress recording fix for UI clients is working in pre-release now and should be available in the next build of NextPVR.

Another serious bug with nlite and in-progress recording has not bee addressed yet.

Does this mean the fix should be present in the latest released NPVR Windows client app, 6.1.3 (230521)?

I've just upgraded to this and I am still seeing the unusable skipping behaviour (jumping ahead by half an hour or whatever instead of a minute, for instance) when playing a programme that is still being recorded, so I thought I should check what the latest situation is and report this in case it's meant to be fixed. Thanks!

Sorry, it turns out I may have hijacked you thread and was discussing UI clients when you were talking about NextPVR.exe I never checked if the problem was different in NextPVR.exe

Perhaps start fresh with the logs showing the issue with NextPVR and ensure you are using the LAV decoder for audio and video playback.

Ah I see! Thanks.

The attached pic is what I currently have set as decoders - is that going to be the cause then, does it need to be LAV for everything? I can't remember how I settled on these as the best decoders now but I feel like there was a reason I had changed to each of them...

(Sorry the screenshot is a bit of a mess - the NextPVR.exe Settings dialog doesn't cope well with Windows scaling settings, which is a whole other issue but not one I'm too bothered about!)

I would certainly change to LAV and see if it helps before going further. The logs would show clearly what you are using.

Thank you, will get back to you when I've had a chance to test further using LAV. Much appreciated!

Thanks for this suggestion, I have had a chance to test this properly over a couple of times of watching a show while it's still recording. I changed all my Video Decoders to LAV.

It's definitely a huge improvement - no more chaotic leaping ahead in the recording, and in a majority of cases it just jumps forward a minute at a time as it should do. On a minority of occasions it does seem to jump a little backwards or not as far forwards as it should, but it's never far out and definitely usable.

However, it seems like the LAV decoder doesn't deal well with interlaced (1080i) broadcasts - whenever anything scrolls or moves sideways on screen, it's very jerky as if it's jumping back and forth between the two interlaced images. Before I was using Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder and it was very smooth by comparison.

So ideally it would be good to have the skipping bug fixed for the DTV-DVD decoder, but in the absence of that, this was a great suggestion, much appreciated - thank you!

You need to report bugs in Microsoft's decoder to Microsoft (good luck with that)

LAV video decoder and deinteracing options can be changed on the decoder settings with the [...] button you may need to play with the H/W and S/W decoding choices. I do remember at one time the BBC was broadcasting streams that mixed 1080i and 1080p which can be challenging for the decoder.
