Have been using a Hauppauge PVR250 to record via composite video for a while using WinTV2K. The recordings are fine with no issues.

Just installed GBPVR to try it out. Installed okay and there were no problems at all. But have noticed that the programs it records using the same PVR250 and video input have random video noise in them (see attached image). Since I am guessing GBPVR uses the same software chain to record as WinTV2K I am a a loss to work out why this noise appears

Anybody with any ideas?

System is a Athlon XP 2000+, Shuttle XPC case/MB, WinXP SP2, GBPVR version 0.91.12

Thanks

Larry

Does the noise appear when you show it in other players? My guess it's a codec problem. You could try to change playback codec and see if that solves the problem...

The noise appears when played back on all machines, not just the PVR. The strange thing is that this noise only occurs when recording with GBPVR - with WinTV2K the picture is fine and given it's the same hardware, codecs etc. that's puzzling

Also in looking at the problem more, I know find that the resultant MPEG2 file coming from GBPVR plays in a jerky manner and also the audio has a constant pulsing sound in the background, again only with GBPVR, not with WinTV2K. That is really annoying since it means I can't use the program at all as the basis for my PVR

You're the only person reporting this problem. Try the latest Hauppauge driver. Hopefully they'll help, otherwise you're out of luck.

I think I solved the problem. When playing back a video using WMP I noticed the MPEG2 codec was SageTV. I then realised I had installed a trial copy of SageTV a while ago and when the trial had elapsed hadn't removed it. Removed it completely. Then played back a MPEG2 file and this time the codec was Mainconcept (which is okay given I have installed the Mainconcept MPEG2 encoder)

Then re-recorded a video using GB-PVR and all is well so it must have been some strange interaction between the codecs/DLL's that SageTV installs and what GB-PVR installs.

Whew!
