Kodi Nexus 2.0

Now that Nexus 2.0 RC is out with the full release to follow, I should note that pvr.nextpvr no longer supports NextPVR v4.   As a result be aware when upgrading that there is no downgrade path, you would need to uninstall and reinstall the old version.    This would include distributions like LibreElec 11 and CoreElec 20 with are built around Nexus.

I have continued to upgrade Matrix and sub did merge in the final version for it last week, AFAIK there are no outstanding issues, although Nexus does offer a few improvements over Matrix.   The older Leia version hasn't been supported for a few years but I do still see people using it, so running older versions is only "bad" if it doesn't meet your needs or if you encounter specific bugs.

Note that due to issues with the upgrade function in Kodi,  if you want to install RC1 over Matrix you will probably need to delete pvr.nextpvr from Kodi and doing a fresh install.

Also for people installing the nightly build it has now switch to v21 which seems to be named Omega. It will no doubt start deviating from Nexus soon.

Kodi has updated to v20.0 Nexus ( from matrix 19.3) on my android boxes but it failed in updating NPVR client (message Not compatible)
Checked add on in repository and Nextpvr pvr client has a X  beside it. (Graeme Blackley 20.3.1 Previously 19.6).
I am running NPVR V5.1.1 on windows10 backend. Please advise of any fixes

20.3.1 is the correct version. Please re-enable it and if the problem contiues update the Kodi debug logs. It may simple have been turned off during the update.

Just updated to Kodi 20 Nexus (from 19.5 Matrix) and have the same issues, tried to re-enable NPVR client got the same (incompatible) I am using NPVR 5.1.4.210802 W10 22H2

You both are right that since the minimum version for Nexus is 5.2 from Sept 2021 which introduced some API changes and was the production release when I started Nexus development.. Is there any reason in particular for staying on such an old version?

I would like to use the latest NPVR Version!
I have tried every version since 5.1.4.210802 with the same result, poor play - skip - performance - freezes -delays and just generally poor replay performance from files local HD commercial TV stations (h264). Pictures and Music do not work. The female member of the household has little tolerance of anything that does not work properly. I have tried many different codecs. I get varying results, but no later versions work as well as the older V5.1.4 and versions before. I do not consider myself as a high-level computer user but do build, maintain and configure my own machines. I have been using successfully using NPVR and the earlier incarnations (GBPVR9608 & PVR350 and many other Hauppauge cards) since 2006. I mainly only use Kodi to play DVD iso files play music and look at pictures which before V5 I could play with NPVR. I still use V4 on another machine (as I need a composite input to a Colussus2 card) I have contemplated returning to V4 on my main machine as it would be easier. 
As a user and supporter of NPVR for 17 years I am resisting moving back to V4 and hope each release will restore the replay performance I have with the V5.1.4. I hope my patience will be one day be rewarded!

Ok fair enough, although some problem could be investigated. Certainly if Music or Picture broke in 5.2 then it probably was Skia graphics but I don't recall any reports on these that weren't there fixed in some quick updates. I suspect you could even use your current NextPVR.exe client with newer versions of NextPVR that support Kodi just be copying the client folder and changing the shortcuts.

There are some benefits it not using NextPVR.exe too and switching to clients like uidroid, is suspect that is easier than maintaining an HTPC for playback at this point.

More on topic with Kodi, since you aren't using pvr.nextpvr for playback which actually could address some of your major issues, it does sound like you really should just continue using v4. Remaining on v4 of course will also mean staying on Kodi Matrix if you absolutely need Kodi. With Kodi you will also hear that v18 is better then v19 and better than v20 from some users, which overall is not true, but for the user experiencing troubles that is difficult to hear or understand.

When I saw message NPVR client not compatible I assumed that the NPVR client addon was not compatible.
After enabling / disabling npvr client in Kodi addons many times I noticed a quick message 5.2 required.
I upgraded the NPVR server to version 6.11 and all OK now. Thank you.
