Hello..  in April 2021,  Sub replied to a forum question with this:

'You can get an m3u out of it using:
http://localhost:8866/service?method=channel.m3u

For this to work though, you need to have ticked 'Allow unauthenticated access for streaming Live TV / Recordings' on the Settings->Access page.'

and also this response:

'I've added a http://localhost:8866/service?method=channel.xmltv for the next build, which will enable you to get listings as well.'

My question being, has the listings method mentioned above been implemented.as of the current build of NextPVR?

The m3u call is available but the xmltv API was dropped as it was being used to feed data to commercial applications like Plex and Emby. There are clients for almost every platform though what use case are thinking?

I had setup a Fire TV Device for an elderly family member, who just can not seem to get their head around the Kodi and your UI client.
(I come in and find the TV in a ginormous snarled up mess, with the person saying 'it wasn't me')

Found an IPTV app that is very classic TV like, and I have guide data setup using external XMLTV file, but just wondered if there was a more elegant method, and came across old postings while browsing the forums.

Completely understand if the XMLTV method was being misused.

Often those IPTV apps cost money too, so they would be profiting too. There was one app even charging for NextPVR support.

In any case if sub fixes the autostart so uidroid would jump Live TV I don't see any Android IPTV viewing only being easier to use with a 2D grid NextPVR.exe users have used that for years. Do you know what specifically they don't like about the NextPVR TV guide? There is big advantages to be able to pause and rewind Live TV too.

Yeah, this particular one is actually free, but has an enhanced version you can buy for DVR type functions.
The Free one though is functional for one source and one guide.

What is interesting, is that you can power down the system (switch off TV) and the app returns to playing what was last on, so from that perspective it is TV Like.
The elderly person has cataract, so it is that reading type navigation thing, where you have to select something as opposed to it just coming up on live TV.

Yes, as you say that auto jump thing would be good.

I come home, and the TV is on with nothing on screen but input status, and the sound is some other source, and everything all frigged up.

I like Kodi myself, and think it can start on live TV, but would have to try out.

My Mum has the habit of switching everything off without first stopping playback first, and Kodi sometimes does not like that, and when powering back on gets really confused and sometimes has corrupted display, where it has not returned to correct screen resolution. My Mum then starts pressing random buttons, thinking that will somehow fix things.

NextPVR.exe and UI client let you access the previous watched channel from the main menu with the Live TV option. I think you can start directly into Live TV too once sub looks into the menu startup default

Using a remote with number buttons you can tune by number it might be a consideration too to make it as close to normal TV as you can

I have a new Fire TV Cube 3rd gen coming, and one of it's features is HDMI input.
I am thinking that I can use that feature to feed input from STB, thus giving my mum live TV, but not requiring a lot of remote trickery.

Not sure if the new cube remote can also control the STB, but I know it can change to the new HDMI source via voice.
I have a harmony Elite, so can probably add the STB commands.

What seems to happen, is that with multiple devices, AVR, and CEC, is that things go wrong, like changes to wrong input, and is obvious to me, but not to my mum.
So, she will just leave everything on, so you have some input text on your nice oled TV for extended time.

Hoping the cube combined with Alexa and HDMI in will simplify things.
Well, that's the theory and my fervent hope.
Then with either a command or voice command, I can drop back into main interface, and use nextui, or Kodi.

The one thing I quite like about the fire devices and kodi, is that pressing back on remote halts  playback, whre on the shield, it places the video in background, which really confuses my mom.

You just need to edit your remote.xml file on the Shield to stop playback on back there are some posts on the Kodi forum on how to stop this stupid default behavior

Thank you for that tip.

I copied the keyboard file from kodi on the fire tv to kodi on the Shield, and it now behaves just like it should.
Agree with you regarding the stupid default action.

Pressing back to end playback is much more intuitive.
I think I was already running a custom keymap on the fire stick that I got somewhere that resolved some issues with harmony remote, so that was useful and seemed to work the same for shield.
