Can anyone tell me if there is an effective strategy for updating only the satellite channels which have changed because of the broadcaster/satellite owner?
I ask because there seem to have been a lot of changes to the Astra 28.2 line-ups recently, especially the BBC channels, and the first notice of this is when channels just stop working/recorings fail.
I then select a tuner and do a new scan, which gives me a list of, say, 600 channels where I need to identify just the 50 that I want and then get everything back into the original order...
Is there any way of just updating any changes - only for the channels that I have previously used?

I assume that TVs and dedicated satellite boxes can do these updates automatically - otherwise disgruntled customers would constantly be taking them back to the shops!

Thank you.

I don't know of any easy way to do what you're asking and it's a pain for me too.

What I've done is copied then edited the 0282.ini file to remove the satellite frequencies that broadcast channels I'm not interested in.

This at least makes the output of a scan less onerous when it comes to making changes as there's a lot less channels in the output.

There is no easy way without having a real Freesat Receiver! As I mentioned in the "Freesat Disruption" post this web site is very helpful telling you which transponders are used in your area!

https://www.satellite-calculations.com/D...Number.php

Select your Region
Click on Frequency to sort by frequency
Scroll down the list of channel names and note the frequency of each channel of interest.
Copying the array into a spreadsheet or text editor can make things a little easier as you can delete all unwanted lines
I reduced my transponder list from about 110 to 22.
Only BBC1 HD and ITV 1HD  have regional programmes. ITV dont make it easy to identify the correct regional channel so you have to use the SID which you will get from King of Sat!
After a scan you will still have many unwanted channels to delete as sometimes you may only want one channel on a transponder!
Its best to edit a copy of 0282.ini but a new update is available to download at King of Sat every day!
NextPVR Server - HP N54L Microserver, Windows 10 - Storage 2 X 3TB - Tuners DVBSky S952 Twin DVB-S/S2 PCIe, Hauppauge Twin DVB-T2 USB, Telestar Digibit R1 Sat>IP Server.
Clients:- 2 X RPi3, 1 X RPi4 and Acer RL80 Celeron Nettop all running NextPVR New Client on LibreElec.

Thank you both for this - I will edit the .ini file to minimise the unwanted channels.

After a quick google I'm still none the wiser as to how a 'real' Freesat box can update automatically - but it looks as though you end up with the EPG channels in a fixed order which would also be a hassle...

There is a some special non-standard stuff that they do on freesat.

If I'd been in that part of the world I probably would have implemented support for some of this stuff in NextPVR, but it's too hard to do it from here in New Zealand without access to the real signals etc.

I am UK based and developed a utility called 'LineUp' - details can be found here https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=62986

There have been no updates required to the original version as the base structure of Next PVR has not changed.  I run EPG Collector every 6 hours (and set Next PVR to update the guide every 6 hours as well) and LineUp twice per week to apply any changes to the channel map to Next PVR.

Hope this help.
