I got a new Apple TV 4k today and installed the NexPVR app on it. Setup was easy, but I've come up against a strange problem.

My DVBV-T channels on an ancient Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1900 play fine, but any DVB-S Freesat channels on the Mystique SaTiX-S2 card just give a blank screen and no sound. Using the web client or the desktop app works fine.

Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong?

Pat

Apologies, please ignore. I'm not sure what happened but my DVB-S channels eventually stopped working entirely. I assume it's something I did as a delete and rescan fixed it. Apple TV client is working great!

I'll delete this thread shortly.

Are you sure they work fine on other clients I never saw tuner 2 lock, tuner 1 was working earlier.

2023-07-28 15:48:43.720 [DEBUG][4] locked=0, present=0, strength=67000, quality=0 (took 406ms to check)

Edit I guess are posts crossed.

No, the web and app clients are having problems as well. The DVB-S channels are freezing after a few minutes or not playing at all. The only change I made recently was to add the DVB-T USB adaptor, which had a very old driver. I'll remove that device later and try again.

Thanks.

Since it was working on tuner 1 I am thinking you may have merged or added tuner 2 and then things started failing. If you disable tuner 2 what happens?

Uninstalling the DVB-T device and removing the drivers did not help. Disabling the second DVB-S channel seems to fix the problem as live TV plays fine. Re-enabling it brings up Starting device please wait and then Streaming Failed (transcoder exited). The video encoder is set to CPU.

Right, the issue I saw was not the DVB-T device it was the second tuner on the DVB-S device. Not sure if it is a NextPVR issue or a driver issue. How does it work with the software for your tuner or SageTV?

I agree. The server I'm using for NextPVR is a spare for testing so that I can leave SageTV up and running. I'm going to install SageTV on this spare and I'll report back.

Thanks,

After installing SageTV and starting the setup, it was obvious that one of the channels on the DVB-S card wasn't getting a signal. Turned out to be a dodgy patch cable going to the card. I replaced it and confirmed that both channels worked reliably in SageTV before switching back to NextPVR. Simultaneous live TV on a web client and the Apple TV has been working fine for an hour now.

One other small problem is that the recording imported from SageTV (.mpg format) play fine on the web client but I just get a black screen on the Apple TV. The logs show that it's finding the file OK, but I don't see any errors being reported.

Thanks,

Pat

In theory NextPVR only supports streaming mpeg-ts recordings but Kodi, uidroid etc do allow mp4, mk4 and mpeg-ps containers since they can detect the format after play starts.. This might be a limitation of the Apple client that sub could likely address.
