I am using 4.2.5

I have tried to update several times and nothing is happening.

I understand that 6.1.5 is the latest version

After the install runs it just disappears and NPVR does not open as it claims.

I clicked on the installer from this post  6.1.5.231022 Available (22nd October 2023)

There are no new versions of NPVR in my program files

Please advise, Thank you.

NextPVR v4.2.5 was pretty much the end of the line for the old Windows only application. There was an entire rewrite of the application before the next release (v5.x), making it compatible with Linux/Mac/Windows/Docker etc. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to do an in-place upgrade between these two very different versions.

Back when v5 was first introduced, we recommended people backup their config.xml and npvr.db3 files, then uninstall v4, and run the new installer. (then restored those files if they wanted to retain their existing setup)

When you installed v6 (ie, the newer style of NextPVR) it'll have installed alongside v4. Backup those files (in c:\users\public\npvr), uninstall v4, then reboot, then you should be able to see to v6. (http://localhost:8866 for the web app etc)

The only config.xml I file in C:\Program files\ Nextpvr reads:  Config-master-dont-edit.xml  It resides in C: / NextPVR / Data   (See attached screenshot) it shows ver. 6 as current?

The only db3 files (2) were in C:\users\public\NPVR (41.0KB)  and C:\users\public\NPVR-data / (320KB)  No db3 files in C:\ other than those.  Which is the new version correct?

Please advise. Thank you.

Anything on my other question about the tv guide programming? Or will that resolve with a new install of current version?  Again Thanks for your help on this.  Bill.

You have C:\users\public\NPVR-data that will be version 6. There is no upgrade from v4 to v6 so you need to disable v4, they both can't run together on the same port and there are no icons created for NextPVR.exe

Stop and disable the recording service for v4 "NPVR Recording service" and the v6 "NextPVR Service" copy npvr.db3 and config.xml from C:\User\Public\NPVR to C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data depending on the tuning source it might work. Then restart the "NextPVR Service"

v6 works fine with Scheduled Direct. Let's wait and see if there are problems once you make the change.

The old v4 release had these files in C:\users\public\NPVR. (have another look - config.xml will be there)

The new v6 release has these files in C:\users\public\NPVR-data

You can copy config.xml and npvr.db3 from C:\users\public\NPVR to C:\users\public\NPVR-data to keep your settings.

As said above, you have both v4 and v6 installed. You can set "NPVR Recording service" to disabled, and reboot, then v6 should be available. In reality, you probably want to uninstall the old v4 application, or you'll probably be trying to run old stuff occasionally.

Yes, current version should resolve this. Schedules Direct changed stuff, and old v4 doesn't have those changes.

I have uninstalled ver. 4 - restarted PC - opened Next PVR Client - confirmed that ver. 6 is installed. Settings- All attempts to set devices, channels anything other than choosing media location... sends me to a login page asking for username and password and no option to reset password or request username (admin I assume? but my password manager has no saved pw for this). I found a post that suggests deletion of config.xml - deleted, restarted PC, but no joy.

Please advise, Thank you.

The defaults are admin and password as shown in the install instructions https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=59388

Maybe try Ctrl-F5 in the browser, in case it's caching old v4 pages. Then login with 'admin/password', and probably tick the 'remember me' checkbox.

If you're still getting prompted to login, maybe you've disabled cookies in your browser or something?
