Some time ago I had changed my "recordings directory" to a share on my file server (\\file01\pvr). I've been recording stuff regularly since, no problem.

In migrating my network storage to a new device, I noticed the shared directory does NOT contain any recent recordings. Odd. As I had already copied the storage over and pointed the Recordings Directory at the new location (\\nas01\media\pvr), I tried recording a channel again, and nothing showed up in the new location either, despite being able to play back what I just recorded. Even more odd.

Looking in config.xml, I have no other recording directories defined:

<RecordingDirectory> \\nas01\media\pvr</RecordingDirectory>
<ExtraRecordingDirectories/>

Doing program title file search on the NextPVR server itself only finds the art .jpeg files, and xml file that describes them... no video file.

So, the recorded video doesn't seem to be on the local server, nor on the file-share defined as the recording directory... where are they going and how do I find them??

Ok for sure it says this

2024-03-05 11:52:17.678 [ERROR][1] Recording directory does not exist: \\nas01\media\pvr

but it does seem to play them.

My guess is you didn't provide directory access to your NAS just read and write permissions.

OK, I had allowed Guest R/W but just now also gave it "Everyone" R/W

I can still record programming, but that directory is not where it's going...

No that is not what I meant. Not sure what OS your NAS is on Linux it is the directory flag, on Windows it is List contents

So... before I saw your last reply, a created a sperate root-level share, in case there were some directory-traversal issues, etc... attached are the perms exposed/set for the "everyone" acct in the GUI for that share on the Synology NAS in question (I haven't SSH'd in to it yet).

I set the NextPVR recording directory accordingly and did another test recording (CHiPs).

Still nothing in that directory, despite the log not containing a "does not exist" error, and the path for the .ts files being noted as that share. Logs attached.

I am definitely confused.

Did you try using the IP and not the hostname?

I hadn't but just tried... no dice.

Incidentally I also try after restarting the service after each change as well. Nada.

Next try, looked at what file handles the NextPVR process had open while recording a show:

C:\utils>handle64 | findstr -i Emergency
  9A4: File  (R--)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.ts
  9CC: File  (R--)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.timing
  9D0: File  (RW-)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.ts
  A94: File  (RW-)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.ts.map
  B2C: File  (RW-)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.ts.map
  274: File  (RW-)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.ts
  280: File  (RW-)  C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ \192.168.100.2\pvr\Emergency!\Season 03\Emergency!.S03E19.The.Hard.Hours.thumbnails

Yet they don't show (taken from the same box running NextPVR):

C:\utils> dir \\192.168.100.2\pvr
Volume in drive \\192.168.100.2\pvr is pvr
Volume Serial Number is A362-D6AA

Directory of \\192.168.100.2\pvr

03/06/2024  11:10 AM    <DIR>          .
03/05/2024  01:03 PM    <DIR>          ..
              0 File(s)              0 bytes
              2 Dir(s)  649,367,994,368 bytes free

I've double checked they aren't hidden files:

C:\utils> dir \\192.168.100.2\pvr /A:H
Volume in drive \\192.168.100.2\pvr is pvr
Volume Serial Number is A362-D6AA

Directory of \\192.168.100.2\pvr

File Not Found

I am flummoxed...
