I'm not sure if this is the correct location to post this but I can't see a section on TrueNAS scale.

At the moment I record TV on my Windows PC, edit out the adverts and copy it to a TrueNAS Core server. Both are in need of replacement.

I'd like to move the recording and storage to a new box (yet to be purchased) running TrueNAS Scale. Is anyone doing that and if so are there any issues?

I'm also hoping to run Jellyfin on the box and play back on my Kodi boxes.

I use a TBS satellite card and want to add a terrestrial card too.

Any words of wisdom?

I guess you should read up about Docker and see how comfortable with that. Then read up about adding /dev/dvb cards on TrueNAS which will take a high level of skill. PCI will be even harder than USB.

Does NextPVR require Docker on Scale? I thought I saw if as a native application on Scale? I need to check again.

Can it run .NET 6 and 8 and are the DVB drivers in the kernel?

I have no idea. I posted on the forum to find if someone had done it. My understanding is that TrueNAS Scale is based on a Linux kernal and I thought NextPVR ran on Linux.

If I had any answers I wouldn't be posting asking for advice!

All I know is that I have been quite happy with TrueNAS Core and ZFS but I'm running out of space. Likewise I've also been quite happy with NextPVR. I am merely looking for a solution where they can both be on the same hardware.

Linux is not like Windows, there are many variations. NextPVR runs on supported Linux systems https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet...tall/linux otherwise you need Docker.

I have had NextPVR running on TrueNAS Scale but it was not easy and ultimately gave up. Scale is meant to be a NAS only and they discourage installing apps directly. Apt is disabled by default but could be enabled. However, they were discussing not allowing apt at all, forcing the use of only containers.

I use OpenMediaVault as my NAS (with ZFS plugin) and had NextPVR running on it for a couple years. OMV is much easier to install and run NextPVR and other apps than TrueNAS.

Sincere advice from previous tested experiences is to use OpenMediaVault because it is easier to install and runs NextPVR more smoothly than TrueNAS.

I've been running NextPVR on a TrueNAS server in a VM running Ubuntu server headless.  It works very well but the only cravat is if you intend to do any trans-coding your server needs to have some horsepower.

Here's a post I did some time back that may or may not help.
