Hello.
I am having an issue with being able to skip/fast forward/rewind/resume downloaded VOD files.  Live TV recordings work, but downloads from the VOD section do not.  I checked the files from VOD download examples and notice the TS file and M3U8 file where as live TV recordings have a TS file, THUMBNAILS, TIMING and an XML file.

Header information in the M3U8 for the VOD download file does not appear to have a Start or End time, just a list of "BYTERANGE" entries.
TIMING file and XML file for the live TV recording appear to have information that may be why skip/fast forward/rewind/resume works.

Can you tell me if there is a setting that can be adjusted to have similar XML file output or TIMING file output like the live recordings to use with VOD downloads?  Something that maybe I am overlooking?  Post processing script that may help?  Possible other reason for not being able to skip/fast forward/rewind/resume downloaded VOD files?

I am on NextPVR Version 7.0.1.241229 running on Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS and testing both the Kodi client version 22.4.0 for Android/Nvidia Shield and the native NextPVR client for Android.

Do you have auto transcode enabled? The m3u8 mode is really only for the web player, typically VOD downloads are mp4 or mkv which Kodi won't have a problem with.

No, I do not believe so. Preferred Streaming profile is set to "Default". Box for "Avoid transcoding where possible" is checked. Recording Auto Transcode is set to "Leave recordings in native format".

Sorry I don't know anything about m3u8 based VOD. Kodi to doesn't use the m3u8 file or timing for seeking.

Do you mind if I PM you a snippet from my log file and config.xml? I believe the VOD is still being transcoded even though autotranscode is not enabled.

It seems like the VOD download button that appears on the title is not actually downloading but capturing/transcoding. Is this possible? I believe I have another app I can test downloading from the VOD section that does save in the native MP4/MKV format from my IPTV provider. Looking now to see if I can test outside of NextPVR.

Confirmed. When I access the VOD section to download the same title as my example using another IPTV client, the file saves in the native MKV file format.

It assumes since you're using the web app to download it, it's probably going to need to be viewed in the web app, so it's converting the video into a format that is going to be able to play in the web app.

It converts it to a .ts file (but with a .m3u8 file alongside it for clients that can use a .m3u8 file). Otherwise it's just like a standard .ts file.

I actually thought that VOD downloaded native, with a known extention, sorry for any confusioin

I did start a thread on playing VOD direct in Kodi without downloading https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=65636 but dropped it do to lack of user interested.
