I'm currently doing TiVO w/CableCARD & also Channels DVR w/CableCARD. I'm looking to replace Xfinity with DirecTV Streaming and it was suggested to me that I check here for assistance. I have multiple Osprey and considered using 4 of those w/HDMI Encoder for recording and Channels DVR. A user there mentioned that he felt NextPVR might be an easier to manage and maintain operation. I certainly don't know and just poking around I didn't find anything that appeared to be what I was told I'd find.

I'm certainly interested and I would prefer I believe DirecTV Streaming for a source if possible.

I'm certainly interested in any other options.

I'm interested in being rid of my CableCARD devices and moving to streaming that would give me 5.1 audio, recording w/com-skip etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you are thinking you can easily get 5.1 from and Android box or STB with an HDMI encoder the solutions are limited if you don't want to uses 4 HDPVR 2 or Colossus devices.

For tuning Direct TV used to offer IP tuning, I have no idea about the Osprey boxes. If they have IP tuning it should be pretty straight forward. Otherwise if you want to control 4 boxes with IR then you need to control 4 blasters. I have a LIRC iguanworks device that does control my Xfinity boxes, but they don't sell that device anymore, you'd have to use two 2 tuners controllers.

Perhaps you could use an adb tuner of some sort again no idea if that will work That would definitely not be easy or maintenance free on any PVR.

So there's no NextPVR simple option?

I appreciate your response, OTA is NOT an option for me for major networks. Do you have a suggestion that I could use to record maybe any streaming service for network TV, com-skip would certainly be a plus. I'll hang with the CableCARD I believe until Comcast/Xfinity actually terminate them in my market.

I thought I proposed a solution with the HDPVR2 connected to the Osprey box. I expect that you are coming from here https://community.getchannels.com/t/dtv-...n/41712/10 Reading further I think you can use adb as your blaster and there are some hints here https://github.com/sullrich/ah4c/tree/ma...ey/directv that you can try with the command line to confirm.

Note if you want 5.1 on Linux not all HDPVR 2 support AC3.
