Okay first, I'm using .91.11 haven't upgraded yet, purely because I always upgrade and mess up something!!

Anyhow, just got an MVP and started to use that with GBPVR. However when FF/Skip the adverts, I can almost get it to crash everytime.

Click FF button, normally skips forward 10secs on GBPVR (350out). Clicking SKIP normally skips 60secs on GBPVR (350out).

On the MVP the FF button will skip 10secs (after a brief pause), but pressing this a few times results in no more FF, or SKIPS working, and intermittent PAUSE or STOP - although the OSD appears. A few seconds later the box will crash.

If I chose to SKIP (1min) and press it carefully then it seems to work ok.

I have the logs if they are of any use. From the logs it appears that the connection is lost and one or the other decides to recycle.

Would upgrading fix this problem? or is it more generic?

Same problem as I get. I think it's a timing problem, the MVP expects to be "serviced" at a specific rate and it isn't so it thinks its lost its connection and starts looking for servers again.

I don't think that upgrading will change things.

Don't want to sound like Marvin (the paranoid android) but I've always had MVP problems like this. What issue MVP have you got? Mine's a D3A. It's on the underside of the box itself.

Mine is a D3A. Not sure who gives up first through, the MVP or the GBPVR side. The MVP seems to carry on playing but then maybe thats just a buffer while it hunts. It certainly has gone to the searching server screens after the loss of control scenario, and GBPVRs logs show a recycle entry.

I think this is a <cough> 'quirk' of the MVP - it waits 8secs for a response and if it doesn't get one in this timeframe, it assumes the connection is lost and drops back to 'contacting servers' (which my wife cynically calls 'The Screensaver'). I don't think this is related to MVP version (although I may be wrong), and I typically get this when I am trying to do something online (such as check email, webcams), and occasionally when I try to bring up the OSD guide.

FWIW, I have learnt two things -
The time it takes my MVP to initially connect when I power it up is typically a good indicator as to how well it's going to perform - if it takes more than two 'rounds' of the little boxes (if you know what I mean), I turn it off and turn it back on, Don't ask me to quantify it, just a feel that you get for these things I suppose.

Skip works far more consistently than FF, and we've just learnt to skip rather than FF. It's no biggie (in my mind).

Hope this helps.

I get the same feeling on that as well. If it cycles more than 2 or 3 times I turn it off, wait a few seconds and turn it back on.
Skip seems to work best.

Does anyone actually have a working MVP?

I don't think it's related to GBPVR but i'm not sure. It seems to be more of a problem, as you say, with plugins that perform internet access and "block". I also think that it's because GBPVR has a much more complex interface than the hauppauge software and therefore times out more.

My MVP is working perfectly (at the moment) with the latest GBPVR for replay of my DVB-T recordings. I have a D3A in Australia. FF works perfectly, probably better than skip. I have had some trouble replaying AVIs with previous versions of GBPVR, but don't watch these often.

One suggestion that improved the speed of my MVP was to change the skin from the default one to flat blue. This is due to the MVP using a type of VNC client which is effectively a screen scraper. The more complex the screen, the slower the refresh.

sub also suggests to set "Minimal OSD during playback" but I haven't bothered with this as it doesn't seem to affect me.

Setting "Minimal OSD..." did make a big difference, cutting the reboots down by well over half. I'lll give flat blue a try with the MVP although I'm buying an ASUS Pundit case and bits for my PVR solution at the end of the week. The result of a combination of having to use my main PC as the PVR, the lack of speed of the MVP and the MVP's general unreliability.

What dongle.bin version are you using and is it kept reasonably cool? These seem to be the 2 issues that affect the MVP.

Interesting. Just ran a quick (i.e. 2 mins 1 round) test, already on Flat Blue (find the simple look easier to read). But I had switched minimal OSD off. Switched it on now, and with a dongle.bin from the latest hauppuage software downloaded, I was able to skip pretty freely and FF freely too.

I don't know if thats it fixed, will have to try more testing later. But its something. (for me Min OSD with the original dongle - still crashed last time I tested)

Just started using the dongle.bin from "mediamvpsetup_24_23104_web.exe" and ran a few tests. It does seem to be better but still not 100% reliable - Wife Acceptance Factor comes into play here - some of you will understand!

I'll try switching to flat blue as well but wanted to change one thing at a time.

I'm an MVP guy using flat blue, and have had no problem with either skipping for FF. I am using the dongle.bin "out of the box" (from GBPVR).

The only times I get server resets are occasionally when I go into tv guide (which is not often)
