I have released a new version of the mencoder plugin
It will convert mpg to avi
It does not require an additional dll.
It uses a newer version of mencoder

The new version can be downloaded from here

If you download from here
the quicktime dll (to be put into the gbpvr homedir) it will also convert quicktime to avi (experimental)

You can't use remote links to fortunecity...
Here's the quicktime .dll
You can never have enough tuners!

Would you please include an option for .mov to .mpg?
I know there are a few users that need a direct plugin (for the media mvp), and must have mpg to view.
Is it possible?

I tried to make that plugin but the results are "difficult"
Sometimes it works and sometimes not.
I do not mind posting but then nobody should complain that it sometime does (not) work.

I will give it a try.

Done.

This is version 0.0.2 of the mencoder plugin.
you can download it from here
The quicktime dll is included in the zip.
It can convert to avi and to mpg
Sometimes it works for quicktime.

Here's a commandline for mencoder that seems to work well.
I tested it on 3 trailers downloaded from apple.
Just change the input.mov and output.mpg names.
Quote:mencoder -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:lmin=2.1:lmax=42.0:vqmin=2:vqmax=18:vmax_b_frames=0:vqdiff=3:vme=4:mbd=2:keyint=3:vbitrate=6800:vratetol=13000:vrc_maxrate=7800:vrc_minrate=4000:vrc_buf_size=1835:vpass=1:vi_qfactor=1.00:vi_qoffset=0.00:vqblur=0.0:vqcomp=0.5:vfdct=6:idct=1:mv0:ildctcmp=2:predia=6:dia=6:trell:cbp:preme=2:nr=0:dc=10:vqmin=2:vqmax=31:vmax_b_frames=2:keyint=50:aspect=16/9:mbcmp=0:preme=2:precmp=0:cmp=0:subcmp=0:mbd=1:vb_qfactor=1.00:vb_qoffset=0.00:vi_qfactor=1.00:mbqmin=2:mbqmax=31:lmin=2.1:lmax=31:vqdiff=3:vhq:acodec=ac3:abitrate=256 input.mov -o output.mpg

Can anybody be kind enough to explain how to use this plugin?
I downloaded it and now have three .bat files, an .EXE and a .dll.
What do I do next?

Isn't it easier just to install quicktime alternate? I did that, and i can watch .mov on gbpvr... just a thought!
If you want to know why nPVR is the bomb, ask my wife!

It may be because this "plugin" must be intended for programmers and not for ordinary folks.

The purpose is not to watch quicktime on a PC, its to convert quicktime to mpeg so you can watch quicktime on a mpefg only decoder device

Are some of y'all still using this utility, or using the new GBPVR built-in transcoder?
