I am sick of my dvd's getting scratched and becoming unusable, can I use a combo of mass storage, a video card, and gbpvr to digitally catalog my dvd's and send them to the TV?
what method of playback will you be using? gfx card? xcard? 350? mvp?
if using a gfx card, the best way would be to either rip them to iso or just rip their dvd folder structure (using the now, perhaps, hard to find dvddecrypter (the author had to stop making it, you should be able to find it thou ). you keep the quality, all the features, the dvd menu etc, but they will take up a lot of diskspace.
reven, thanks for the reply, Im not sure exactly what to use yet, i have dvd decrypt, as well as dvdshrink. I also have a prog called ratdvd that says it can get to 1gig per dvd with all features still intact. I dont especially care about the extra features and such, so the more compression without too much quality loss the better.
I am currently working on doing the same thing.
What I am doing it useing DVD2MPEG to convert them to MPEGs. DVD2MPEG just does the movies no extras. I will either be using My Videos or XRecord to display/sort them. I can then play them on the one TV through my TV out card or my MVP.
The larger the harddvire the better. Plus alot of time converting all the movies to MPEG.

Ron how is that working for you? Also I just converted a movie with Ratdvd and it came out to 1.06gb and it seems like it is good quality, now I need a video card with TV out, any suggestions (lower prices are better )
I have played a few movies and it looks good. Right now I am working on converting to MPEG. Plus I am playing around with different setups to get the most user friendly setup (easy for Wife and kids to use). I still have not decided what I am going to use to display the movies yet. My Videos is nice because I can display Big Icons. There is some feature I am missing.
XRecord does not display big icons but the source is available so I can (did) change a few things I did not like.

Wow 1 Gig per movie with DVD2MPEG I get 3 to 5 Gig. Does GB-PVR play the ratDVD files alright? I might have to look into it.

Well I am using a cheap Radeon card with TV out. I am sure there are better choice but so far it has worked good.

Wow you want a lot I have to tell you and it has to be good.
Currently I am using the old Ver 2.1.10.0 Because I had problems downloading the Info with Ctrl-O. I have no problem upgrading to the newest version.
Here is what I would like to see.
I want to be able to turn off all Menus.
When I click on My Videos I will just get a display of large Icons.
Also Change it so If I hit OK or Play it will play the video no more sub menus.
The goal here is to be able to make this as easy as possible for the Kids and Wife to use.
Plus I want to be able to change it for the computer and MVP separately.

you can do all this already in my vids 4.0 (maybe in version 3 too, i cant remember).
you *might* get a bug or error message if you push left (ie to go to menu) with no items, if you do, i can easily fix this, never tested with no menu items.
