Hi all. Another Kiwi signing up for GB-PVR. I've been banging my head against Windows XP Media Center 2005 for the past week after performing some upgrades on my PVR from an old ATI All-In-Wonder 128 card. Dealing with DVD decoder problems, video card driver problems, TV stuttering problems...And on top of that, I couldn't even get half of the channels in my area (Auckland's North Shore) tuned in (After attempting to battle with the MCETuningOverrides.xml file and the TVAutoTune section of the registry). Bleah!

So about an hour of playing with GB-PVR and reading some article's here, and I'm rocking and rolling. That's how it should be! Great stuff...I do expect that getting the EPG to play nicely will take some work which is what was driving me towards MCE in the first place. We shall see.

Two silly questions if I could. Can anyone tell me why the Support area says it has almost 4K threads, but I can only see "1 to 20 of 20" and there's no "Next page"? And two, is there some end user documentation on GB-PVR? I'm curious about features like simultaneous record and watching using my Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE, recording codecs, and things like that...

Cheers,
Peter

the old wiki (the current wiki, but its phasing out): http://gbpvr.bladerhq.com
the new wiki (not complete yet): http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/

you should be able to find most information you need at either of those two sites.

Goto the bottom of the screen when in the forum section listing thread. Display options.
Sort by, sort order (descending/asc), and from the (date). Change that to what you want to see the rest.

Simultaneous record is simple. In config, set up your PVR-500, get your listings sorted, then repeat the process, so you have 2 devices(tuners), with identical setups.
You can now schedule two simultaneous shows, or record one, watch another. GBPVR looks after everything else.
Recording codecs...The card does the encoding, Hauppauge supplies the Intervideo non-css decoder. If you have any other registered mpeg-2 codecs on your system, they should be available as options on the Playback tab in config. Things like Ulead, Intervideo WinDVD, Cyberlink, etc., will usually install and register a decoder.
And things like that...
I'm sure you'll have more questions as you go along, especailly about some of the great plugins and skins available. Just start playing around with stuff (make a full gbpvr folder backup first).
You can never have enough tuners!

I don't think that's quite right, is it? If I understand correctly, only certain decoders are recognized by GBPVR. They are listed in config.xml and will display in the software decoder list of Config's Playback tab if they are installed. Other decoders can be used, but to do so they have to be set as the Windows system default decoder and to use it in GBPVR, you have to select System Default as the software decoder choice.

Anyone disagree?

System default is (supposedly) the intervideo non-css one.
If you have any other ones registered in windows, they should show up in config, and they are available to use for decoding (playback/timeshifting).
I have Intervideo WinDVD Platinum, which is the decoder used, when I view things in WinDVD. I have Ulead, and it uses it's decoder, when viewing in Ulead MF2SE, I have Mainconcept mpeg encoder installed, and it uses it's version, when encoding mpeg's, and decoding them if re-encoding mpegs.
These are all registered, and available in config, both for playback, and on the Misc tab, BDA Multiplexer.
Here's my full list of mpeg-2 decoders available on the config/playback tab:
Quote:<SupportedDecoders>InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge,InterVideo Video Decoder,CyberLink DTV Video Decoder,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI),NVIDIA Video Decoder,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder,Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder,Moonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder,MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder,MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Video Decoder,Sonic Cinemaster® DS Video Decoder,DScaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder,ATI MPEG Video Decoder</SupportedDecoders>
You can never have enough tuners!
