I would like to be able to block specific shows from being able to be viewed or recorded. I want to use the MVP in our kids playroom and would love to use it to screen out specific shows. I know there are parental controls on some of the plugins for shows you have recorded, but I also want to block live tv shows. I don't want to blow out an entire channel, just some specific shows. Any ideas?

the problem is that sub has designed gbpvr aroundn xmltv, which doesnt allow for things like this (rating systems) guide2j might be able to do this in the future (it cant currently start livetv from the guide, hopfully sub will add this to the next release, just bug him until he does Smile).

Thanks for the info reven. I don't even need anything as complex as a ratings based block. I would be happy if I could go to the TV Guide, and instead of selecting "watch" or "record", I could select "block", and then a "block all of this show" name. or something like that. If not in TV Guide, then maybe on fastfind, or???. I wish I could write code so I could help out on projects like this. All of the developers are doing a great job. (especially Sub!). I will patiently await a great solution.

xrecord and myvideos have pins you can use to preventing them from being viewed. in xrecord shedule a show and in pending hit the blue key, then cancel the show.

I second this request. The Zap2It XML data has plenty of ratings information for supporting parental controls. Most video tuners provide V-Chip compatible information that can also be used if the EPG source doesn't provide this.

It's not enough to block an entire channel just because late night shows are becoming more and more (IMO) obscene. I opened GB-PVR the other night to be greated by one of Skinemax's late night featurettes. It's a good thing that my daughter had just left the room to go to bed (whew!). A very basic V-Chip like blocking should be pretty easy since there is a ratings interface on the video controller and MCE uses this for sure.

this actually would not be hard. I already get all of the zap info. I just have to add a check the rating. I will investigate it for xrecord.

this will block recorded programs from being played. they can still do it with livetv

I'm going to check out XRecord for other reasons (you responded to my other post) so I would be anxious to see support for blocking based on ratings. I'm trying to configure my network systems to all point to the recording machine for playback -- it seems as though this plug-in might solve most of my concerns.

Blocking should still be an integral function of GB-PVR (especially LiveTV) although if the developer doesn't have young children using his system, then I doubt there's going to be much incentive to implement it.

Thanks!

The problem is sub does not use zap2it, and xmltv does not have the ratings. So it will have to be done with plugins. Maybe we can get sub to provide a hook and create a livetv plugin with ratings.

OT, but it probably depends more on where you're from than if you're a parent or not.
