I have one of those low speed data port cables attached to my PC. Is there any way to change the channels on my DirecTV box using my MVP remote via GBPVR?

My System:
Hauppauge 150 MCE
Hauppauge MVP
GBPVR PVR

This isnt directly supported by GB-PVR, but I know some people use the ".exe channel changer plugin" and point it at an executable that can do this low speed data cable stuff.

I dont know what that executable is, but if you do a search it should turn up something.

Once this is in place, it automatically be available for use via your MVP.

No, I wasnt talking about that specifically. I actually didnt even know that existed, but yeah looking at it, thats pretty much what you need to do. If its not working for you, you could try contact the author of the page (Cheval).

As a first step you should try to get the directv.exe working independantly of GB-PVR first.

What about this one? Link

That one works independantly of GBPVR first (with the mouse). I just can't get it to work with GBPVR.

If it can be controlled by the command line (no mouse), then it'll probably do the job.

With GB-PVR, or by itself from the command line?

Confirm you can get it going from the command line first, before trying with GB-PVR.

GB-PVR's ".exe channel changer" is able to run another executable program to change channels using some unknown external mechanism (like this low speed data cable stuff). To do this, you need to tell GB-PVR what the name of the executable is, and what command line parameters to pass to it.

It best to confirm these facts you're telling GB-PVR, by manually performing the same steps yourself. For example, assumming you've got a utility called dtvcl.exe, you do something like the following....

1) Click Start -> Run.
2) Type "cmd.exe" then click "OK". You'll now be at a command prompt.
3) Type "cd path\to\downloaded\utility" and press enter. You'll now be in the same directory as dtvcl.exe
4) type "dtvcl #123" and press enter. Your DirecTV should hopefully than switch to channel 123.

If this works, then the same should also work in GB-PVR. You'd set the .exe channel changer to point to dtvcl.exe, and set the arguments to "#{channel}".

Obviously the directory above depends on where you saved the utility you downloaded. The #123 was the format mentioned by the "command line utility" page at http://dtvcontrol.com/ you mentioned earlier. Other utilities may have different command lines, that might for example, mention comport number, baud rate etc.
