This problem sounds trivial, but it's really bugging me.

I've loaded a lot of my CDs onto my PVR, and My Music is great at browsing them, viewing the album art, track information, etc. However, when I select an album to play (using either the red button on the un-named button) it plays the tracks in alphabetical order by song titile, not the order on the album. This happens no matter what view order I use.

It seems silly, but I want my albums to play in the order that was originally intended!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

rename all your tracks as follows

01 - track one.mp3
02 - track two.mp3
03 - track three.mp3

etc etc

use a tool like eags on! to sort it all out for you

I must admit, that is the major reason why I use the MusicAlbums plugin - I have set up all the album m3u playlists in the root directory, and direct the plugin to look there - that way I can play the album tracks in the correct order without clunky workarounds.

I haven't tried the other music plugins for a while, but I would have thought one of them would check to see if there is an .m3u list in the directory first before listing the tracks in alphabetical order - I will have a look later today.

[edit:] yes, most of the music handlers, including the default "music library", let you use .m3u playlists, so if you have your playlists as the first thing in the album directories (ie 0-playlist.m3u), you could select that to play the entire album. There are a number of programs that will simplify playlist generation - I use Tag&Rename, but I think I bought a license for it. It is an excellent program, but I am sure there are free alternatives, or you could simply use WinAmp etc.

cheers,

tieke

i think i figured out why its doing this, i keep my music structured like
my music\artist\album\artist - tracknum - song.extension
it does vary, but in general the tracknumber is listed before the song name, which if played alphabetically plays the songs in order. so thats probably your problem.

if thats not the case and you have similar filenames, let me know because that will be a bug, if that is the problem then its a design thing (ill try and check for this in the next version, whenever that will be).

I noticed it as well but didn't like to say. Anyway, rather than listing the order alphabetically can you read in the track number from each file and list them this way?

yeah ill do that in the next release but i have no idea when that will be, doing it that way is just a little bit slower, thats probably why i didnt do it to begin with.
